84, of Elaine, Ark., passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021, in his home surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer. James grew up in St. Charles, Arkansas, and was the oldest of nine siblings. He grew up loving the outdoors and especially hunting and fishing. James began work at a young age to help support his family and would carry that strong work ethic throughout his life. He served in the Army National Guard in his early 20’s. He worked in and managed graineries in Dewitt, Stuttgart, and Elaine, for 67 years. James was married to his wife, Patsy for 43 years. He was known as an outstandin­g crappie fisherman and loved nothing more than cooking fish fry dinner for his friends and family. Besides fishing, James’ other hobby was his garden. He loved growing vegetables and had a huge garden. He could be seen dropping off produce on many of the Elaine porches all summer long. He was especially known for his tomatoes, which were a favorite of people from Elaine all the way to Heber Springs. James was a member of the Elaine United Methodist Church and also the Elaine American Legion, where he served as commander for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Corbett George and Sarah Jane George; sister, Opal Robinson; four brothers, Leonard George, Robert George, Dwight George and WR George. He is survived by his wife ,Patsy George; daughters, Denise Peterson (Jason) of Maumelle and Terri Jackson of Hilo, Hawaii; grandson, Todd Jackson of Atlanta, Georgia; brother, Jessie George of Marvell; sisters, Sara Freeman, Rhonda Sheridan, and Robin Jackson all of Heber Springs. Memorials may be made to Elaine Untied Methodist Church, 109 N 6th St, West Helena, AR 72390 or The American Cancer Society. A memorial service for Mr. James Lee George will be held 10 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2021, at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Brother Luke Watson will officiate.
