Baby’s body found in trash in Missouri

-

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — Authorities reported finding the body of a dead baby in a trash can outside a suburban Kansas City apartment.

The Kansas City Star reported that the discovery was made Tuesday after a man called police and said he found the body in a closet and was so rattled he threw the remains in the trash.

Police Sgt. Chris Depue said Friday that no charges have been filed and that the case is currently classified as a death investigation.

According to a search warrant, the man told police he and his girlfriend had broken up but that she spent the night on Nov. 7 as the couple sought to work out their differences. When he came home from work the following day, he found his girlfriend lying in a pool of blood and called 911.

The boyfriend told police he overheard a paramedic say his girlfriend may have had a miscarriage.

The boyfriend suggested to police that he was unaware of the pregnancy, telling them he had asked her while she was being treated in the hospital whether she had known she was pregnant. He told investigators that she did not answer his question.

The man said he found the baby’s remains later that night while looking in a closet for toilet paper.
