DALLAS, Texas — With heavy hearts,

-

the Montgomery family regrets to announce the passing of our beloved Granny Kay on December 5, 2021. Her quick wit and contagious smile will be deeply missed.

Kay was a dear wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. While she was a lifelong student and relished the opportunity to travel, the true love and work of her life was her family. Born Kathryn Baker in Illinois in 1923, and raised in Arkansas, she was an only child. Kay received the love and affection of her parents, aunts and uncles, whom she cherished until her death. She moved to Texas to attend Texas Women’s University, where she graduated with honors, and married Carl

B. “Catfish” Montgomery in 1943 to begin a family of her own. She and Catfish remained married for 63 years, until his passing in 2007, and had two sons: Baker and Bill Montgomery. She also was blessed with eight grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren, who provided her with activity, adventure, and love to the end.

Aside from family, Kay was also an accomplished academic, earning her Masters and PhD in Bio Chemistry from Texas Women’s University. Her dream of teaching chemistry at the university level was briefly realized when she taught at East Texas State (Texas A&M) in Commerce, but the commute was hard on her and her family. She worked as a chemist for Hunt Chemical before retiring.

Kay will be forever remembered and loved by Baker and his wife Mary; Bill and his wife Susan; six grandsons: Jeff, Ben, Monty, Porter, Baker and Tim; two granddaughters: Joan and Ann; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind friends and caregivers who had the fortune to have her in their lives.

The family will be forever grateful to Sheena and Leon Patton and their team of caregivers from Transitional Health Care Services, LLC for the support and love each of them showed our dear Granny Kay in the last years of her life.

A private graveside service will be held to celebrate her life on Saturday, December 11. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please consider donating to any of the following charities: University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (engage.utsouthwestern.edu/donate-now), the Stewpot (thestewpot.org/donate), Operation Kindness (operationkindness.org/ways-to-give), and The Field and Mary Scovell Scholarship Foundation.
