ANNE LOUISE HILL NORTH MCGHEE,
In our hearts forever, aka “Mommie”, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday night, December 3, 2021, after a lengthy terminal illness.
She was born on March 26, 1929, the middle child and only daughter to Arthur “Kit” Hill and Lucille (Grampton) Hill in North Little Rock, Ark. She is preceded in death by parents; daughter, Jacquelyn Alexander; older brother, Wilbert Hill; and two nephews.
As a child, she lived in the Dixie Addition area with short stays in Dallas, Texas, and as an adult, spent the rest of her life in the Tie Plant area of North Little Rock. She attended schools in both North Little Rock and Dallas, Texas (including Scipio A. Jones HS), as her family traveled back and forth. She was a life-long and second generation member of Riverview African Methodist Episcopal Church in North Little Rock.
She attended and graduated from Velvatex Beauty College in Little Rock as a licensed beautician. She then went to California for additional training to enhance her skills. For many years, she was the owner and operator of “Anne’s Beauty Bar” on Tie Plant Lane, a beauty shop that she had added onto the side of her residence, which still stands. She was so passionate about serving her customers, that she was known to frequently provide transportation to and from her shop. And her customers would help clean, cook, and care for her children while she worked.
She was a founding member of the “Beautician’s Brunch Club”, whose members were working beauticians meeting once monthly at alternating residences. This club provided charitable donations at various times of the year to worthy causes and a yearend Christmas party to the public. She held numerous offices, including the office of president for the longest period of time, serving into her eighties before retiring from the club.
Anne was initially blessed with two daughters, Barbara Rice and Jacquelyn Alexander (deceased); and a son, Thomas (Maxine) North, III. After raising them, she remarried (James McGhee, deceased) and to this union Angela (Keith) Brown was born. Her grandchildren, Dwight Dobbins, Lacy (LaTanya) Alexander, Thomas A. (Kendra) North, Angelisa Dobbins, Kaisa Alexander, and Audra (Leroy) Jones, Mallori Cole, Alexis Allen, and Donte Cole, kept her busy and she provided a safe and entertaining haven for them and their neighborhood friends to flourish in. She was active in all the school and social activities, serving in the Parent/Teacher’s Organization, Band Parent’s Club, and participating with neighborhood associations. Many greatand great-great-grandchildren would follow.
Anne is survived by the above listed children and grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Regina Bryles, Jane Johnson; sister, Mary Dawson; brothers, George Hill, Calvin Williams, nieces, Barbara (Richard) Goldston, and Tina (Drexton) Harrison, nephews, Michael Hill, Timothy Hill, Christopher Hill, and numerous cousins in the Little Rock and North Little Rock area.
Funeral services: Family hour on Friday, December 10, 2021, 6-7 p.m. and home-going service on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 11 a.m. Both will be held at Superior Funeral Services, 5017 E.
