LONOKE — John Logan Taylor,

85, was granted eternal rest on January 2, 2022. He was born in Nowata Co., Kan., on June 27, 1936, the so, of Leona Mae and Lee Wesley Taylor.

He spent his youth in South Coffeyville. Kan., with his parents and six siblings; three brothers: Donald, Kenneth, and Doyle; three sisters: Katherine, Colleen, and Wanda. He was a member of the 4-H and enjoyed raising cows and pigs to show at the state fair.

Master Chief Taylor was a proud U.S. Service Member for 27 yrs. He was accepted into the U.S. Navy on February 7, 1955, at Independence, Kan. During his service, he received six Good Conduct Medals, with one Silver Star, the National Defense Service Medal, and a Vietnam Service Medal. He was stationed at San Francisco, Midway Island, Guam, Great Lakes, Japan, San Diego, Adak, Alaska, Mayport, Fla., and Meridian, Miss., where he retired from the Navy at the end of December 1980. From there, he went to work for Maybelline as a service worker. He worked at Maybelline from January 13, 1981 until April 29, 1999. He also had a side job, that he loved, with the Democrat Gazette, where he filled newspapers in the newspaper boxes.

He met the love of his life, Charlotte Abigail Vogen; they married on December 28, 1962. They had one son, John, and one daughter, Sondra. Together, they enjoyed traveling, fishing, watching football, and playing Pinochle and Farkle. He loved gardening and growing beautiful flowers, huge tomato plants, spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Roxanne, whom he referred to as his best friend. He was very concerned about the environment and the impact that society is having for future generations. He learned about recycling and tried to recycle everything he could.

His final days were spent in Memory Care of Little Rock – Good Shephard. Left to cherish his memory are his son John Taylor; daughter, Sondra Taylor; daughter-in-law, Angie Elmore; granddaughters, Lauren Baker (Larry) of White Hall, Ark., Barbara Sauceda (Andy) of San Antonio, Texas, Rachel Taylor of San Antonio, Texas; and four great-grandchildren: Lacie, Colton, Cherish, & GiGi. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Kathy Taylor; his sister and brother-in-law, Colleen and Glen Robison. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte Taylor, in 2020; parents, Lee and Leona Taylor; three brothers: Donald Taylor, Kenneth Taylor, and Doyle Taylor; two sisters: Katherine Taylor Bennett and Wanda Darlene Taylor Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on January 14, 2022, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral home in North Little Rock, Ark.
