INDIANOLA, Miss. — Mabel Cathrine Free Jayroe,

84, of Indianola, Miss., and formerly of Forrest City, Ark, passed away Monday, January 3, 2022, at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola. Mabel was born December 9, 1937, in Haynes, Arkansas, to Clayton and Leona Peacock Free. She was an avid gardener and loved to cook. Mabel owned and operated Quality Connection­s, an antique and gift shop in Forrest City for many years. She attended Cumberland Presbyteri­an Church in Palastine, Arkansas. Mabel was lifetime resident of St. Francis County, Arkansas, prior to moving to Indianola two and a half years ago to be closer to her daughter and grandchild­ren.

She loved spending time with her grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buddy Jayroe; and two sisters, Cuebell Ramsey and Yvonne Masengale.

She is survived by three children, Larry (Sue) Jayroe of Palastine, Arkansas, Kathy Jayroe (Pat) Chism of Indianola, Mississipp­i, and Gary (Robin) Jayroe of Forrest City, Arkansas; seven grandchild­ren, Clint (Kristin) Jayroe, Leslie Jayroe (BJ) Beavers, Mallory (Lori) Chism, Jessica (Logan) Simmons, John Landen Chism, Rich (Jessica) Jayroe, and Ryan (Sarah) Jayroe; and eleven great-grandchild­ren, Connor Jayroe, Jackson Jayroe, Cayden Davis, Trey Beavers, Mallory Beavers, John Clayton Chism, Kathryn Chism, Dodd Simmons, Porter Simmons, Kate Simmons, and Mallory-Collins Jayroe. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 7, 2022, at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Forrest City, Arkansas. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangemen­ts.
