-

82, passed away suddenly, at home, of a heart attack, on Sunday, December 19, 2021. Doug was born in Miamisburg, Ohio, March 14, 1939.

Doug was the middle son of Freda Helen Moore Cotterman and John Andrew Cotterman. Brother Winston “Boots” Cotterman survives. Brothers James (Jim) Cotterman, Eugene (Gene) Cotterman, and Philip (Phil) Cotterman predeceased Doug. Doug is also survived by his children, Christalyn “Christie” Cotterman (Austin, Texas), and Clay Douglas Cotterman (Alexander, Ark.); stepson, Kevin Collier; grandchildren, Caleb Cotterman and Audrey Cotterman; ex-wife, Sharon Nye; exwife, Anna Cotterman; longtime companion, Nancy Jones; and his cat, Charlie.

Doug graduated from high school in Mentor, Ohio, where he was an outstanding track star with medals and records in discus and shotput. He also played basketball which is what his classmates remember most. Doug graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and served proudly as a Marine Captain. He was an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation assigned first in El Paso, Texas, where he met the mother of his children, and then in Little Rock, Ark., for the remainder of his career. Doug, among other duties, served on the SWAT team, was the firearms instructor, the bank robbery coordinator, and the office photographer. After retirement in 1994, Doug moved to Hot Springs Village, Ark. with Nancy Jones, designed and built a house on the mountain, and remained there until his death. All of the rock walls he built, the paths he made, the flower beds he created among the rocks, and the plants and trees he so loved, will be a visual legacy for those who live on the mountain after them.

His friends and acquaintances have commented that he was a “nice man”. He was also a loving and devoted father and a great companion. Doug lived a life worth living. Every person hopes to be remembered in this way and Doug deserves it. If you wish to make a contribution in his memory, please make it to your favorite charity or local animal shelter. There will be no formal service.
