STUTTGART — Mary Louise Gunnell Hartz,

born September 11, 1930, died January 10, 2022. She was the daughter of Wilbur and Thelma Gunnell, one of five children Of her siblings, she is survived by her sister, Carolyn Hemme Peterson of Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Nelson and Thomas and her sister, Marge. Mary Louise married Alfred Hartz of Stuttgart and they in turn had five children. Their children include Charlotte Ann Eagle (Joe) of Stuttgart, Lyle Thomas Hartz of Atlanta, Francis Lee Hartz (Bonnie) of North Little Rock, Charles Alan Hartz (Jamie) of Houston, and Susan Kathryn Sturdy of Stuttgart. Grandchild­ren include, Clay Eagle (Ashley), Ryan Eagle, Tanya Eagle Perry (Alan), Suzy Turner (Chris); Anna Hartz Baker (Ian), Rachel Hartz; Ehren Hartz (Katie), Amanda Hartz Russell (Shepherd); Christophe­r Hartz; Allison Sturdy Brown (Rustin), Stephen Sturdy. Great-grandchild­ren include, Jacob and Jackson Eagle; Meridith and Rachel Eagle; Keely Sparks (Tanner), Karlee Lipton (Hunter); Jonah Perry; Colby and Sawyer Turner; Wyatt, Nate and Graham Hartz; Nataly and Nathan Hartz: Lorelei Brown; Ellis and Shepherd Russell.

Mary Louise had two passions in life besides her family. They were baking and gardening. Her desserts were legendary in her family. She was especially known for her cookies and cakes, with the notable exception of pound cake. Her Hershey cake was known to disappear in minutes. She spent many hours in her flower beds throughout her life. She loved azaleas, gladiolas, peonies and tulip trees. However, iris were her favorite flowers and were a mainstay in her plantings.
