WILLIAM EDWARD “BILL”

-

MCCLANAHAN, surrounded by his loving family, went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2022, at the age of 77.

Bill was born to the late Hayes and Naomi Thom McClanahan on April 19, 1944, in Little Rock, Ark., the city and state he called home all his life. He loved doing anything and everything outdoors, so living in the Natural State was paradise. And, yes, he was an avid Razorback fan!

Immanuel Baptist became another significant forever place as his church home. On April 25, 1944, he was enrolled in the Cradle Roll Department; he was 6 days old. He accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized on April 11, 1954, one week before his 10th birthday. This began his 62 years as a church member. He taught Sunday School for many years in the Preschool Department, where both he and his wife, Susan, loved to serve.

Bill loved working with his hands, and there wasn’t a broken anything, big or small, that he couldn’t fix. After graduating from Central High, he attended a technical school in Memphis to further hone his mechanical skills. In 1964, he met Susan Huchingson, they married a year later and started a family. Bill worked for 31 years as a hydraulic mechanic for Entergy before retiring. He also served in the Army Reserve for 6 years.

Bill was an optimistic, positive, generous man who always helped others but was humble and wanted no recognition. His greatest passion was being a devoted husband, father and Pawpaw.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susan; daughter, Tracy Davis (Mickey); two sons, Steven (Laura) and Michael. He also leaves eight grandchildren who adored him (and he them): Zachary, Caleb (Kaitlyn), John Vincent, Anna Grace and Maddox Davis, Rex McClanahan, and Hayes and Carter McClanahan.

A celebration of life service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 11 a.m., with Dr. Rex Horne officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Preschool Fund at Immanuel Baptist Church,
