LONOKE — Edna Jewell Gorbet,

78, passed away January 5, 2022. Edna was born on March 9, 1943, in Lonoke to the late Daniel and Marie (Henderson) Hayes alongside three older siblings; Tommie, Allie Mae, and Dorothy Faye.

After graduating high school in 1961, she married her love, Larry Gorbet, and together raised a beautiful family of three. She was a secretary and a substitute teacher for many years, but her most loved job was raising her children and grandchildren whom she loved taking care of and did so exceptionally. Nothing gave her more pride and joy than being a part of their lives. She was a devoted member of the Lonoke Apostolic Church, attending since she was a child, where she sat in the same pew every Sunday. She adored her church family greatly.

Edna will be remembered for her love of flowers and gardening, her love of reading romance and mystery novels and taking trips to the library, for her amazing cooking, the silly roll of her eyes and raised eyebrows, and her sarcastic remarks. She also loved sitting on the patio with her family and watching the squirrels and hummingbirds in the spring and summertime, and taking long drives around town. She’ll especially be remembered for her bright smile, sparkling eyes, kind heart, and quick wit. Edna was a beautiful soul that will be missed, loved, and cherished deeply.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of sixty years, Larry Gorbet; children, Greg (Tammy) Gorbet, Steve (Angie) Gorbet, and daughter, Laurie Beth all of Lonoke. Seven grandchildren, Bradley, Jason, Steele, Cheyenne, John, Savanna, Garrett, and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Dillion. A funeral service was held 12 p.m., Saturday, January 8, at Lonoke Apostolic Church with visitation at 11 a.m., at the church. Interment followed in Brownsville Cemetery, Lonoke.
