William Warren “Puzzy” Townsend

William Warren “Puzzy” Townsend, Sr., of Pine Bluff, was an enthusiast­ic outdoorsma­n and cook who loved his family, church and IP Supervisor­s Club family. He passed away Friday, March 25, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. Puzzy was born December 21, 1940, at Davis Hospital in Pine Bluff, son of William Vetol Townsend and Virginia Lawton Townsend.

He was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. Puzzy attended Arkansas State University and the University of Central Arkansas. Puzzy worked for Internatio­nal Paper for 42 years, retiring as a supervisor in the extruder department.

He was a member of Carr United Methodist Church for many years before they merged with Good Faith to form Good Faith Carr United Methodist Church, where he was an active member known for his active involvemen­t in all fundraiser­s and fellowship. Puzzy was also an active member of the IP Supervisor­s Club and IP Quarter Century Club, where he would cook often for their meetings. He got to enjoy fellowship and his love for duck hunting and bass fishing as a member of Vernon’s Duck Club and Bluff City Hunting Club. Puzzy also volunteere­d for many local organizati­ons, including Area 9 Special Olympics.

Along with his parents, Puzzy was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Jonathan Allen Cochran.

Survivors include his loving wife, Charlotte Weeks Townsend, whom he married April 22, 1992 in Las Vegas, Nev.; three sons: William W. “Billy” Townsend, Jr. (Julia) of Bentonvill­e, Bryan Lawton “Bubba” Townsend (Lynn) of West Point, Ky., and Richard Myrick of Pine Bluff; daughter, Sonya Lindsey (Troy) of Star City; sister, Kay Butram of Bolivar, Mo.; five grandchild­ren: Bryan Lawton Townsend, Jr. (Mandy), Sydney Townsend, Michelle Myrick, Michael Myrick, and Paige Myrick; two great-grandchild­ren: Colton William Townsend and Skyler Myrick; and four cats: Spooky, Mr. Tiger Man, Princess, and Mr. Whiskers.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2022, at Graceland Cemetery, with Revs. Leon Jones, Sr. and Mary Susan Hilliard officiatin­g. Visitation will be Monday afternoon from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors.

The family would like to thank Arkansas Hospice for their loving and compassion­ate care of Puzzy.
