SUN BELT UALR 6, TEXAS-ARLINGTON 5 (10)
The University of Arkansas-Little Rock needed just three pitches in extra innings for a walk-off victory for a second straight game at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.
Designated hitter Jake Wright launched a 1-1 pitch over the left-field wall, sending UALR (16-12, 6-6 Sun Belt Conference) to a fifth consecutive victory Sunday. Wright finished 3-of-5 with a double and three runs scored.
Texas-Arlington (11-21, 4-8) held a 4-3 lead through seven innings, but a Jorden Hussein sacrifice fly tied the game at 4-4. The relief trio of Joey Martin, Sawyer Smallwood and Preston Davis tossed three scoreless innings to allow Wright the opportunity to finish off the sweep.
LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE 7, ARKANSAS STATE 4 (10)
For a second straight game at Jonesboro’s Tomlinson Stadium-Kell Field, Arkansas State University was let down late by its bullpen, surrendering three runs to Louisiana-Lafayette in the top of the 10th inning.
ASU (5-24, 0-12 Sun Belt Conference) grabbed an early lead, scoring once in the second and adding three more in the third. Cooper Tremmel, whose two-out single put the Red Wolves up 4-0 went 3-for-4 with a walk.
Louisiana-Lafayette (18-14, 7-5) leveled things with four runs in the span of five batters in the fifth and broke the deadlock in the 10th, pulling ahead on a wild pitch and extending its lead to 7-4 on a two-run single by Max Marusak.
ASUN UCA 5, JACKSONVILLE STATE 4
After giving up the lead in the last frame Friday night, the University of Central Arkansas completed a ninth-inning comeback in the series finale Sunday at Bear Stadium in Conway.
Trailing 4-2 and down to its last three outs, UCA (13-16, 8-4 ASUN Conference) put its first two men on base via a hit-by-pitch and a single. Following a sacrifice bunt that moved both runners up, Noah Argena singled through the right side to score both and tie the game 4-4 while advancing to second on the throw.
Jacksonville State (13-17, 7-5) intentionally walked the next batter to set up a potential double play, but R.J. Pearson slashed a single to right, scoring pinch-runner Trey Harris and giving the Bears a fourth series victory in as many weekends.
SWAC UAPB 17, GRAMBLING STATE 7
Brandon Simon went 5 for 5 with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (7-19-1, 4-8 Southwestern Athletic Conference) took the final contest of a three-game series at Wilbert Ellis Field in Grambling, La.
Mickyren Bentley had three hits and drove in four runs for UAPB, which broke a 6-6 tie with an eight-run sixth inning behind home runs from MicKyren Bentley, Dylan Jutze and Karsten Vasquez. Simon later added a three-run home run in the eighth as UAPB registered 18 hits to snap a seven-game losing streak.
Trevor Hatton, Keylon Mack and LaMarcus Jones each smacked home runs for Grambling State (13-19, 8-4).
