COASTAL CAROLINA 15, UALR 4

Hayden Arnold was battered in the series opener in Conway, S.C., as Coastal Carolina jumped out to an early 6-0 en route to a win Friday night against the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.

A two-out double put the Chanticlee­rs up 1-0 and Coastal Carolina (27-15-1, 14-7-1 Sun Belt Conference) added five in the third inning, which included backto-back runs.

The Trojans sliced the deficit in half with three runs and Canyon McWilliams extended his hitting streak to six games, but UALR (21-20, 9-12) surrendere­d the next nine runs and stranded seven runners on base, never giving itself a chance to dig its way out.

SOUTH ALABAMA 7, ARKANSAS STATE 1

Arkansas Tate put itself in a four-run hole and never came close to digging out Friday night in Mobile, Ala., at Stanky Field.

South Alabama’s Matt Boswell held the Red Wolves without a run through eight innings, striking out nine to carry the Jaguars. ASU (10-30, 5-16 Sun Belt Conference) finally got on the scoreboard in the ninth on Jacob Hager’s RBI single but had just four hits up to that point.

South Alabama (25-19, 11-11) battered Red Wolf starter Justin Medlin for 7 runs over 41/ innings, led by cleanup 3 man Hunter Stokes, who went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, 2 runs and a home run.

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 18, NORTH ALABAMA 9

A nine-run third inning by the University of Central Arkansas blew things open Friday afternoon at Bear Stadium in Conway in the series opener against North Alabama.

Pinch hitter Dylan Cyr extended the Bears’ advantage to 15-1 in the fifth with a grand slam — one of three home runs for UCA (20-23, 14-8 ASUN Conference).

Connor Emmet went 4 for 6 with 4 RBI and 2 runs and leadoff man Kolby Johnson finished 3 for 5 with a triple, 2 RBI and 3 runs.

The Lions scored eight runs over the final three innings, but Tyler Cleveland mostly kept North Alabama (9-33, 2-20) in check, striking out 6 over 61/ innings 3 while allowing 4 runs.

SOUTHERN 13, UAPB 4

A seven-run first inning was all Southern needed to blow past the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff at Lee-Hines Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Taj Porter hit a three-run home run and Michael Latulas had a solo home run to highlight the opening first for the Jaguars (16-27, 13-9 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference), who cranked out 11 hits in the game and got a stout outing on the mound from Joseph Battaglia. The senior pitcher allowed 6 hits and 4 runs while striking out 5 in 82/ 3 innings.

Tremaine Spears also had a two-run home run for Southern.

Carlos Velez and Edwin De La Cruz each had an RBI for UAPB (9-31, 5-16), which has lost five games in a row.
