GEORGIA SOUTHERN 12, UALR 6 (6)

The University of Arkansas-Little Rock’s (22-24, 10-16 Sun Belt Conference) final home game of the season came to an abbreviate­d defeat to Georgia Southern (34-17, 20-7) as rain brought things to an end at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.

Neither team’s starting pitcher could make it out of the second inning as UALR’s Jacob Weatherley (1-3) and Georgia Southern’s Thomas Higgins (2-2) each allowed four earned runs before being replaced.

Jay Thompson (6-3) got the win for Georgia Southern, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits in 4 1/3 innings of relief.

UALR was led by third baseman Nate Lyons at the plate with a 2-for-3, 2-RBI performanc­e. Jordan Hussein added two hits and an RBI.

Georgia Southern featured a pair of three-hit batters. Jesse Sherrill and Sam Blancato went a combined 6-for7 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI.

GEORGIA STATE 5, ARKANSAS STATE 4

Georgia State (29-23, 14-12 Sun Belt Conference) completed its sweep over Arkansas State University (11-35, 5-21) at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.

Georgia State got to ASU starter Carter Holt (0-2) in the third inning to open the scoring as the Panthers scored three runs on a single and an error.

Georgia State starter Brandon Kaminer (1-1) went 4 innings, allowing 1 hit and 4 walks while striking out 4. Joseph Brandon and Seth Clark each allowed two runs in relief of Kaminer.

ASU first scored in the fifth inning when Jaylon Deshazier doubled to left-center field to score two runs. Brandon Hager and Ben Klutts added backto-back solo home runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 4-4.

GSU’s Jojo Jackson brought in the eventual game-winner in the eighth inning on a single to score Cameron Jones.

The Nos. 6-9 hitters for ASU went 0-13 including a pinch-hit appearance from Garrett Olson.

JACKSONVIL­LE STATE 8, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 7

The University of Central Arkansas (23-25, 17-9 ASUN Conference) dropped its rubber match against Jacksonvil­le State (23-27, 16-11) on Sunday at Jim Case Stadium in Jacksonvil­le, Ala.

Jacksonvil­le State got to UCA starter Cade Fenton (1-2) early, scoring 3 runs in 1 1/3 innings and 5 runs in the next 3 innings against Andrew Shoultz (3-6).

UCA scored three runs in the first inning against Jacksonvil­le State starter Jake Peppers (4-2). Relievers Trey Fortner and Dylan Hathcock combined to keep the Bears’ offense scoreless over the next five innings before Tanner Jones allowed three runs in a third of an inning.

AJ Causey recorded his 8th save, pitching the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 3 strikeouts.

At the plate, UCA was led by center fielder Drew Sturgeon with three hits. Dylan Cyr and Connor Emmet each added two RBI. The Bears left 12 runners on base to the Gamecocks’ four.

Eight of the nine Gamecock hitters recorded a hit with three batters recording multiple hits.
