Orion Federal Credit Union
Since joining the downtown community in 2018, Orion Federal Credit Union has established a steady presence in the heart of Little Rock, serving the community with competitive products and personal service. With a modern branch location near the Capitol at Third and Cross streets, renovated in 2020 by local firm WD&D Architects, Orion is anchored as a dedicated community partner.
Founded in Memphis in 1957, Orion Federal Credit Union has grown to become the largest credit union in the Mid-South, with more than 70,000 members and $1 billion in assets. Orion offers a full spectrum of banking options, ranging from savings and checking accounts to home, auto, personal and commercial real estate loans.
As a member-owned financial institution, Orion’s profits are passed along to members through higher deposit rates, lower loan rates and affordable financial services that help pave the way to financial freedom.
Orion also introduced a Career Development Loan in Little Rock, seeing a need for skilled workers with technical and medical certifications, as most of these programs are not covered by traditional student loans.
“We believe providing financial assistance for these skills will meet the needs of the community, not only improving lives but driving business development,” Orion CEO Daniel Weickenand said.
Orion has also taken seriously its responsibility to turn profits back to members in the form of community support. The credit union has donated more than $2 million to support nonprofits and community events in Little Rock and Memphis over the past few years, including title sponsorship of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s annual POPS on the River Independence Day celebration in past years. Orion has also been a generous supporter of Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Downtown Little Rock Partnership.
“Over the years and many sponsorships, we’re confident that our giving has been multiplied, not just by the people who attend these events and the nonprofits raising funds, but by inspiring peers in the business community to increase their charitable giving,” Weickenand said. “We’re proud to bring that effort to Little Rock and see what we can build together.”
