CABOT 37, JONESBORO 6

CABOT — Four different players scored touchdowns for Cabot in a win over Jonesboro.

The Panthers (3-1, 1-0 7A-Central) did most of their damage from inside the Hurricane’s 10-yard line. Quarterbac­k Abe Owen scored from two yards out and running back Evion Jimmerson scored from five yards out.

Keegan Vest and Owen Horne scored rushing touchdowns from three yards and one yard, respective­ly.

The Cabot defense forced a safety and a Jonesboro intercepti­on.

6A-EAST

SHERIDAN 49, JACKSONVIL­LE 0

Jarrett Atchley and C.J. Dollarhide each ran for two touchdowns to lift Sheridan (2-2, 2-1 6A-East) to a blowout victory at Jacksonvil­le (0-4, 0-3).

Atchley finished with 126 yards rushing while Dollarhide added 90 yards on the ground for the Yellowjack­ets, who led 28-0 at halftime. Sheridan, which had 396 yards of offense and forced four turnovers, also got touchdown runs from Brady Dillon, Conrad Davis and Blain Shumate.

Taquon Sanders ran 11 times for 56 yards to lead Jacksonvil­le.

5A-EAST

SOUTHSIDE BATESVILLE 36, FORREST CITY 0

BATESVILLE — Seth Case finished with 121 yards and a touchdown on a shutout for Southside Batesville (3-1, 1-0 5A-East).

Lewis Calhoun and Jaylen Jennings had touchdowns for the Southerner­s. Chase Duncan also threw a scoring pass for Southside Batesville, which led 22-0 at halftime.

Jon Strother added an intercepti­on while both Jaxon Hatfield and Andrew Plummer both had fumble recoveries in the win.

VALLEY VIEW 42, PARAGOULD 0

JONESBORO — Valley View (3-1, 1-0 5A-East) used a 28-point second quarter to turn a close game into a blowout in its league opener.

Carson Turley threw touchdown passes to Mark Wilson, Matt McMullen and Jackson Harmon in the second quarter for the Blazers. Turley also had a 58-yard scoring run in the quarter that allowed Valley View to grab a 35-0 lead by halftime.

Ian Garner chipped in with a 3-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.

5A-SOUTH

HOPE 45, DE QUEEN 29

De QUEEN — Hope (1-3, 1-0 5A-South) was consistent against De Queen, scoring 13 points in each of the first three quarters to notch a conference road win against the Leopards (0-4, 0-1).

Tyler Patterson threw four touchdown passes for the Bobcats.

Isaac Love caught three of Patterson’s four TD passes. Triston Young had the other.

Hope took a 13-0 lead in the first quarter with Patterson tossing scoring passes of 18 yards to Young and 61 yards to Love.

After De Queen cut Hope’s lead to 13-6 in the second quarter, Jaqualin Watson responded for Hope by returning a fumble recovery 15 yards for a touchdown. A two-point conversion attempt failed and Hope led 19-6. Patterson kept Hope’s offense in tune by tossing a 30-yard touchdown pass to Love for a 26-6 advantage.

Patterson kept up the pressure in the third quarter by throwing a touchdown pass to Love to stretch the lead to 33-6.

Hope’s final score came from a 6-yard touchdown run by Tamorien Lindsey.

MAGNOLIA 41, TEXARKANA 8

MAGNOLIA — Magnolia stuck to its usual gameplan against Texarkana, riding running back Garrion Curry’s 185 yards and 4 touchdowns to a win.

Curry rushed 11 times for the Panthers (4-0, 1-0 5A-South), who had no trouble with the Razorbacks.

Magnolia looked to other sources for rushing yards against Texarkana’s (13, 0-1) defense to complement Curry. Fullback Jase Carter had a rushing touchdown, and quarterbac­k Dalen Blanchard rushed nine times for 51 yards and a touchdown. He also completed 5 of 6 passes for 81 yards.

HAMBURG 19, DUMAS 13

DUMAS — Willis Robinson carried 20 times for 120 yards and a touchdown as Hamburg (1-3, 1-2 4A-8) rallied past Dumas (1-3, 0-2)

Zane Johnson had seven tackles defensivel­y for the Lions, who have been beaten in each of their previous three games by at least 13 points before turning the tables on a Dumas team that was coming off a victory over Lake Village a week ago.

ARKADELPHI­A 49, NASHVILLE 12

NASHVILLE — Arkadelphi­a (4-0, 1-0 4A-7) used a 27-0 second half run to pull away in its conference opener.

Donovan Whitten completed 15 of 22 passes for 301 yards and 2 touchdowns and added 58 yards rushing and 1 score for the Badgers, who led 22-12 at halftime. LaTonnieo Hughes had a kickoff return for a score and caught a pair of touchdown passes while Kyle Reed rushed 11 times for 60 yards and 3 scores for Arkadelphi­a. Carter Babb led the Badgers in receptions with 7 for 61 yards.

Sloan Perrin led Nashville (3-2, 0-1) with 103 yards passing and 71 yards rushing. Tre Hopkins rushed 23 times for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Scrappers.

ASHDOWN 49, WALDRON 0

ASHDOWN — A 29-point first quarter was more than enough to keep Ashdown (5-0, 1-0 4A-7) perfect.

Jonathan McElroy accounted for four touchdowns (2 passing, 2 rushing) to power the Panthers, who ran out to a 43-0 lead after two quarters. Jayden Fricks had a pair of scores, including a 5-yard run in the opening quarter that began Ashdown’s onslaught.

Darnell Williams and Thomas Calloway added scoring runs while Kaiden Winfrey hauled in one of McElroy’s two touchdown passes.

POTTSVILLE 44, MAYFLOWER 14

MAYFLOWER — Nico Yabara carried 15 times for 105 yards and 4 touchdowns to push Pottsville (2-3, 2-1 4A4) past Mayflower (1-3, 0-2).

Bricen Villareal added 134 yards rushing on 22 carries, with 1 touchdown, while contributi­ng an intercepti­on and fumble recovery on defense for the Apaches. Landon McNeely also had a fumble return for a touchdown for Pottsville.

The loss was the second straight for Mayflower.

BLYTHEVILL­E 38, HARRISBURG 0

HARRISBURG — Blythevill­e (2-1, 1-0) shut down Harrisburg (2-2, 0-1) in its 4A-3 Conference opener.

The Chickasaws led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 38-0 by halftime.

Ladarrius Reed had a 24-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for Blythevill­e.

GOSNELL 48, HIGHLAND 14

GOSNELL — Cam Williams had five touchdowns, including two intercepti­on returns for scores, as Gosnell (4-0, 1-0 4A-3) rolled.

Williams had 6 catches for 159 yards and 3 touchdowns as well for the Pirates, who jumped out to a 34-0 lead after the first quarter. Reid Shelton completed 10 of 14 passes for 246 yards, with all 3 of his touchdown tosses going to Williams.

Floyd Williams also added 104 yards on 10 carries with a touchdown for Gosnell.

POCAHONTAS 28, RIVERCREST 21

POCAHONTAS — Connor Baker scored four touchdowns to send Pocahontas (3-1, 1-0 4A-3) to a 4A-3 conference win over Rivercrest (1-3, 0-1).

Baker scored on a 1-yard run and a 4-yard run in the first quarter, then added touchdowns from 33 and 14 yards out for the Redskins, who stopped a four-game losing streak to the Colts, including losing the past two matchups by 20 points each in 2021 and 2020.

TRUMANN 34, JONESBORO WESTSIDE 8

JONESBORO — Murphy Williams had a hand in two touchdowns in an overpoweri­ng showing by Trumann (22, 1-0 4A-3).

Jake Osment also scored twice while Cade Hatton had a touchdown run for the Wildcats, who bounced back after last week’s loss at Newport. Coda Cameron also caught a touchdown pass from Williams.

Darvin Fowler had the only touchdown for Westside (1-3, 0-1).

HARDING ACADEMY 45, STUTTGART 23

SEARCY — Owen Miller threw five touchdown passes to lead Harding Academy (4-0, 1-0 4A-2) to a win over Stuttgart (3-2, 0-1).

Harding Academy took a 14-0 lead in the the first quarter and extended it to 31-13 by halftime. The Wildcats scored their final two touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters.

Miller got the Wildcats rolling in the first quarter by throwing a 37-yard touchdown pass to Kyler Hoover. He had a 62-yard scoring pass to Landon Koch later in the quarter for a 14-0 lead.

Kaynan Harris advanced Harding Academy’s lead to 21-0 with a 7-yard touchdown run, followed by an 18yard touchdown pass from Miller to Hoover for a 28-0 advantage in the second quarter.

Stuttgart got on the board before halftime with a field goal, but Kyle Ferrie matched it with a 31-yard field goal to stretch Harding Academy’s lead to 31-3.

In the third quarter, Miller threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Koch, and he sealed the final score with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Hoover.

CAMDEN HG 24, DREW CENTRAL 6

MONTICELLO — Caleb Johnson rushed for two touchdowns to lead Camden Harmony Grove (3-2, 1-0 3A6) past Drew Central (3-2, 0-1).

Tyler McCann put Harmony Grove on the board in the first quarter with a field goal, and Landon Garrett followed with a rushing touchdown to make it 10-0.

Johnson ran for a touchdown in the third quarter and had another scoring run in the fourth quarter.

RISON 51, PINE BLUFF DOLLARWAY 0

PINE BLUFF — D.J. Kines scored three touchdowns to help Rison (4-0, 1-0 3A-6) take down Pine Bluff Dollarway (0-4, 0-1 3A-6).

Rison’s first score came when Roger Boswell blocked a punt that was returned 25 yards for a touchdown. Trayveon Wright increased the Wildcats’ lead with a 12-yard touchdown run.

Kines caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Owen Morrison, and then scored on touchdown runs of 4 and 3 yards, the second being the first score of the second half.

Zakyler Walker ran five yards for a touchdown, and Stephen Sharer scored the Wildcats’ last touchdown with a 3-yard run.

Defensivel­y, Rison intercepte­d five Dollarway passes.

FOUKE 13, JUNCTION CITY 12

JUNCTION CITY — Fouke’s defense came up with two crucial stops in the fourth quarter to its 3A-5 opener.

Trailing 13-6 in the fourth quarter, Junction City (1-3, 0-1) pulled within a point on a 25-yard touchdown from Decoreon Dubose to Jakourian Key, but Fouke (3-2, 1-0) stopped Hayden Hudson on the two-point conversion try that would’ve given the Dragons the lead.

Junction City’s defense, which limited the Panthers to just 163 yards of total offense, forced Fouke to punt on the ensuing possession. The Dragons then reached Fouke’s 23 before Dubose was sacked to end the game.

The Dragons led 6-0 on a 1-yard run by Key, but the Panthers tied the game late in the second quarter, then took the lead in the third.

MANILA 18, PIGGOTT 6

PIGGOTT — Felipe Lozano scored two touchdowns as Manila (1-4, 1-0 3A-3) picked up its first victory of the year.

Lozano scored on a 13-yard run and a 2-yard run while adding a 16-yard touchdown pass to Mason Mullen for the Lions, who racked up 211 yards rushing. Jacob Baugher had 74 yards on 10 carries, and Mullen chimed in with 61 yards on 14 carries.

Kayden Horton, Koltan Kisner and Trey Platz all had intercepti­ons for Manila.

WALNUT RIDGE 56, PALESTINE-WHEATLEY 2

WALNUT RIDGE — Walnut Ridge (41, 1-0) demolished Palestine-Wheatley (0-4, 0-1) in its 3A-3 Conference opener.

The Bobcats scored all of their points in the first half to invoke the Arkansas Activities Associatio­n’s sportsmans­hip rule, leading 24-0 at the end of the first quarter and 56-0 at halftime.

Walker Ward rushed for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns on 11 carries for the Bobcats. Logan Sain had 123 yards and a touchdown on 7 carries.

Also for Walnut Ridge, Kai Watson finished with 74 yards and 2 touchdowns on 8 carries, while Hunter Colvey added 63 yards and a touchdown.

NEWPORT 44, QUITMAN 26

NEWPORT — A potent rushing attack propelled Newport (3-2, 1-0 3A-2) to win over Quitman (1-2-1, 0-1).

For Newport, Dayrin Braxton scored a 12-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. He completed a pass for a two-point conversion in the second quarter and ran for a 2-point conversion in the fourth quarter.

Defensivel­y, Nehemiah Crite returned an intercepti­on 55 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

For Quitman, Nassir Donahoo completed a 12-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to Logan Love, and a 55-yard touchdown pass to Greyson Ealy in the second quarter. He also ran one yard for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Newport led 12-6 at the end of the first quarter and held an 18-13 lead at halftime.

Quitman led 26-18 at the end of the third quarter, but Newport outscored the Bulldogs 16-0 in the fourth quarter to earn the win.

CARLISLE 42, BEARDEN 0

BEARDEN — Jason Sullivan ran for four touchdowns to lead Carlisle (4-0, 1-0 2A-4) over Bearden (0-4, 0-1).

Sullivan struck in the first quarter for Carlisle with a 7-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead.

Sullivan kept the pressure on the second quarter with touchdown runs of 37 and 11 yards. Kaleb Elliott contribute­d a 1-yard touchdown run. Sullivan also ran 37 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Lawson Petrus scored Carlisle’s final touchdown in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard scoring pass to Gabe Boyle.

ENGLAND 48, BAPTIST PREP 21

ENGLAND — Chandler Cheek’s big night allowed England (3-1, 1-0 2A-4) to cruise to a home victory.

Cheek ran 19 times for 188 yards with 2 touchdowns and was 10-of-19 passing for 247 yards and 3 scores for the Lions, winners of two in a row. Josiah Mwakasings, D.J. Turner and Nehemiah Solee all had touchdown catches for England, which finished with 586 yards of offense.

Demario Carter, who also had 2 intercepti­ons and 1 for a touchdown, had 106 yards receiving for the Lions.

HAZEN 46, HAMPTON 0

HAMPTON — Hazen (4-0, 1-0 2A-4) used a balanced attack to shut out Hampton (1-3, 0-1).

A 26-point second quarter by Hazen overwhelme­d Hampton, highlighte­d by a 33-yard touchdown pass from Shedrick Ward to Keshawn Gray, a 35-yard touchdown run by Braylan Anderson and a 50-yard touchdown pass from Luke King to Anderson.

Hazen’s first score came in the first quarter with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Shedrick Ward to Keshawn Gray, followed by a successful two-point conversion.

Justin Schlenker scored Hazen’s only touchdown in the third quarter on a 42yard run. Larry McGee Jr. scored the Hornets’ last touchdown by catching a 60-yard touchdown pass.

HECTOR 42, JOHNSON CO. WESTSIDE 16

HECTOR — All of the damage for Hector (3-1-1, 1-0 2A-1) was done in the first half as it blasted its conference counterpar­ts.

P.J. Henderson had two touchdown runs for the Wildcats, who held a 42-point advantage after two quarters. Drake Riley, Brent Casto and Landen Coffman also had scoring runs for Hector.

Westside (0-5, 0-1) had a touchdown run in the third quarter before scoring on a touchdown pass and on a safety in the fourth.
