JONESBORO — Cissy Ola Marie Mahan Lieblong,

-

73, of Jonesboro left this life Sunday, September 18, 2022.

Cissy had fought a long and courageous battle against cancer. Cissy was grateful for her illness because it showed her things in her children and her husband she would have never seen without it.

Cissy was born December 1, 1948, to Rose Morgan Morris Mahan and William Thomas “Bill” Mahan of Martinville, Ark. She graduated from Greenbrier High School and obtained a teaching degree from the University of Central Arkansas. She married her high school sweetheart, George Lester “G.L.” Lieblong, Jr., on July 21, 1967. During their 55 years of marriage, they had three children, Brad Lieblong, Julie Lieblong McMillon, and John Lieblong; gained three children through marriage, Brandie Painter Lieblong, Brett McMillon, and Kacey Martin Lieblong; six grandchildren, Hayden McMillon, Anna McMillon Blakely, Hadden Lieblong, Hudson Lieblong, Tyson Lieblong, and Barrett Lieblong; and one grandchild by marriage, Nathan Blakely. The love of her family was her greatest blessing.

Cissy was extraordinary to those who knew her. She was an excellent homemaker and attentive wife and mother. She was a teacher, a historian, a house builder, an interior decorator, a songwriter, a designer, an artist, a seamstress, an incredible hostess, a gardener, a wonderful cook, a true patriot and political activist. She was honest and loyal and generous beyond measure. She never met a stranger and had friends from all over the world.

She was also an excellent writer and poet. Years ago she wrote: “Our family is a circle of love with God as our compass. We stand hand in hand in times of joy and adversity. With each marriage and birth the circle grows larger. With each adversity overcome the circle grows stronger. With each joy shared the circle grows brighter. May God grant us the wisdom to appreciate the value of this circle of love. That we will work to nurture and maintain its legacy for generations to come.” The circle was the most valuable thing Cissy gave her family. It will not be broken.

Cissy is survived by her husband; her children; her grandchildren; her sister, Teresa Mahan Barry and family; and many other dear loved ones.

A celebration of life service in memory of Cissy will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Ark., with visitation to follow. The burial will be a private ceremony at a later date. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the St. Bernard’s Hospice team, the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House and Visiting Angels for helping care for their mother. Flowers can be sent to Emerson Funeral Home or donations can be made to the Cissy Mahan Lieblong Memorial Scholarship Fund at any Regions Bank Location.
