PH.D.,of North Little Rock, died on November 14, 2022. He was born on June 4, 1952 in Dallas, Texas, to Joe B. and George Marie Alford. Joe graduated from St. Mark’s School of Texas and earned a bachelor’s degree from Hampshire

College in Amherst, Mass. He completed his formal education with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology awarded by Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

Joe spent his profession­al life in the public service sector, specializi­ng in addressing the needs of individual­s with chronic mental illness. He was licensed to practice psychology in the state of Arkansas from 1983 until his retirement in 2017, and was last employed by Arkansas State Hospital. During his career he was active in both the American Psychologi­cal Associatio­n and the Arkansas Psychologi­cal Associatio­n, at times holding office in both organizati­ons.

Joe married Joyce Garner in 1978 and they completed 44 years of marriage prior to his demise. In his leisure time. Joe enjoyed singing, playing guitar, writing music, reading, trout fishing and building guitars. He was a kind, sensitive, knowledgea­ble and intelligen­t man.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and youngest son, John Sherman Alford. He is survived by his wife; oldest son, Robert Garner Alford of Philadelph­ia, Pa.; and sister, Frances Rolater of Denton, Texas. Online guestbook: www.rollerfune­ralhomes.com/chenal
