CLEMSON, S.C. — Mary Elizabeth Kunkel,

69, of Clemson, passed away November 20, 2022.

Born in Newport, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Karl and Mary Leach Kunkel. Beth graduated from the University of Tennessee and the University of Alabama, Birmingham. After receiving her doctorate, she began a long career as a professor in the Food Science and Nutrition Department of Clemson University. Beth was a member of the American Dietetic Associatio­n and Slow Food SC. She loved to garden and quilt. Beth was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, where she assisted in many aspects of the church including missionary work in Haiti.

She is survived by her brother, Charles “Charlie” Kunkel and wife Arlene of Newport, Ark., and sister, Linda Odom and husband Troy of Mountain View, Ark. Beth is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends that she loved.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 3 p.m., at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 193 Old Greenville Highway, Clemson, SC.
