SEARCY — Opal Allene Clay Showalter,

93, of Searcy, Ark., passed away on November 22, 2022.

Allene was born February 12, 1929 to Homer and Tellie A. Clay in Rosebud, Ark.

After graduating from Searcy High School in 1946, she started her career with Southweste­rn Bell Telephone Company, and retired in 1984.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Neal Showalter; both parents; two brothers, Glen J. Clay and Howell G. Clay; two sisters, Wilma L. Holeman and Audrey A. Joyce; and a granddaugh­ter, Caroline I. Showalter.

Allene is survived by a daughter, Laura Showalter DeLay and her husband John of Midlothian, Texas; a son, Roy Lynn Showalter and his wife Nancy of Searcy; three brothers, Kenneth M. Clay and Darrell G. Clay, both of Searcy, and Billy J. Clay and his wife Alison of Savannah, Ga.; one sister, T. Lucille Clay Carter of Searcy; seven grandchild­ren, Parker Showalter and his wife Jessica, Connor Brown, JT DeLay, Anna Claire Showalter, Megan Edwards, Samantha Villasenor, and Ryan Young; 13 great-grandchild­ren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Searcy for over 50 years and enjoyed participat­ing in the Sonshine Singers as well as the Encourager­s Sunday School Class.

A favorite pastime was sharing meals and card games each Monday with her treasured friends.

Serving her community by volunteeri­ng many hours with the Hospital Auxiliary gave her much pleasure.

A service will be held Friday, November 25, 2022 at 3 p.m., at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to attend. A private burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the organizati­on Allene supported, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
