Clardy bounces back, leads Conway to win

- — Erick Taylor

CONWAY — Chloe Clardy overcame a scary moment in the second quarter Tuesday night to help Conway’s girls stay unbeaten.

The senior scored eight of her 15 points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Wampus Cats knocked off defending Class 5A champion Greenwood 50-45 at Buzz Bolding Arena.

Clardy, a Stanford signee and the reigning Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas Preps Player of the Year, landed awkwardly on her right ankle during a sequence in the second quarter with Conway trailing 16-15. The 5-9 guard had to be helped off the court and missed the remainder of the half.

But she returned after halftime as Conway (6-0) erased a 22-20 deficit by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 30-23 over the final 16 minutes.

Savannah Scott had 11 points and Kamille Brown scored eight points for Conway.

Anna Trusty ended with 16 points for Greenwood (5-1), which suffered its first loss. Madison Cartwright added 15 points.
