Arkansas Index adds 5.78, ends at 841.61

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, closed Tuesday at 841.61, up 5.78.

“With a speech from Federal Reserve’s Jerome Powell looming today, stocks closed flat on lower-than-normal volume Tuesday with gains in financial and energy firms tempered by a slide in technology shares,” said Chris Harkins, managing director at Raymond James & Associates.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
