HOT SPRINGS — Harold W. Campbell

-

was born May 9th, 1935, in Bastrop, La., greeted in the loving arms of his mother Leita Mae Doughty Campbell. He was also welcomed by his father, John Edward Campbell, and brother Raymond Campbell, on April 17, 2023, at his home in Hot Springs, Ark.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Campbell; and four children, Tamie Erwin (Scott) of Hot Springs, Ark., Chad Walthall of Commerce, Texas, Michelle Mann (Mark), Cathey Robbins (Ken), both of Little Rock, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Harold took the insurance agency which he helped form in 1958 when he joined his then father-in-law, Ed Pace, and built it into a statewide organization. He then, with the help and support of many loyal employees, combined 21 separate insurance agencies into eight corporations with 12 locations, over 14,000 customers, 70 employees and seven branch partners.

During their active years of Campbell & Company, Jeanne and Harold lived in Camden, retiring to Hot Springs after the sale of the business.

Harold credits his success to his mother and dad, along with his brother Raymond E. Campbell, for raising him in an atmosphere of unreserved and unconditional love that they never failed to give him the support he needed and for the perfect attendance, required by his mother, to the Methodist Church Sunday School. (He kept the lapel pens to prove the quality of her support!)

All their support was the reason Harold became an Eagle Scout at an early age, received respect from teachers and enjoyed support from his “peers” that regularly made him a class officer of some sort through the years. Harold was also chosen to attend Boys State.

Harold’s education included graduation from Camden High School, Camden, Ark., in 1953, Hendrix College, Conway, Ark., in 1957, and Designated Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in 1963.

He worked in underwriting for Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company in Dallas, Texas, from 1957 to 1958, part owner and producer, Pace, Mosley & Campbell, Inc., Camden, Ark., providing insurance and real estate products and services from 1958 to 1978. He jointly owned Century 21 Campbell and Company of Camden, Ark., from 1977 to 1997. Formerly, Harold served as a director for man, Arkansas banks.

Harold was involved in numerous civic activities. He served as Mayor for the City of Camden, Ark. He served as Chairman for the Ouachita County Hospital Board, Ouachita County Red Cross Drive, and Chairman for the Governor’s Advisory Board to the Insurance Commissioner. He also served as President for the following, Camden Jaycees, Camden Chamber of Commerce, Camden Rotary Club, Camden Area United Fund Board, Camden Band Auxiliary, an, Arkansas Association of Professional Insurance Agents. He served as Supervisor for the Ouachita County Probation Board and was a member of the Executive Committee, Arkansas Municipal League.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs, Ark., and National Societies of CPCU, Ark., and National Associations of Independent Insurance Agents, Ark. and National Associations of Professional Insurance Agents, National Association of Realtors, Camden Masonic Lodge #11, FandAM, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and the Sahara Shrine Temple.

Harold reported later in his life that while he made several major mistakes, his life was good. He credits again his mother, dad, brother, wife, her children, his daughters, loyal friends, classmates in grade school, high school and college, Branch co-owners and some very outstanding employees with helping

him lead and have such a fulfilled and successful life. While he received more than he was due, he died regretting that those who supported and depended on him through all the years certainly deserved more than they received.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Camden, Ark. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs, Ark.
