SEARCY — Retired Searcy businessman Richard H. Davis

-

peacefully went to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 15, 2023.

He was born in Sidon, Ark., to Oran and Ethel Rhodes Davis on February 15, 1930. He was raised in Searcy by his uncle and aunt, Carl and Edith Scott, who instilled in him a strong work ethic. He spent two years in the United States Army and six years in the National Guard.

He married Margaret Dale Coleman of Romance, Ark., in 1952, and together they owned and operated Davis Furniture and Appliance in downtown Searcy for 31 years until their retirement in 1985. They were very proud to have Crafton’s carry on their furniture legacy for over 30 years.

He often said that marrying into the Coleman family was the best thing that ever happened to him.

Richard was a skilled carpenter and welder and started Davis Box Factory building shipping crates and transporting rubber rollers for Samuel Bingham (Finzer Roller) for several years after his retirement from the furniture and appliance business.

Richard was an accomplished horseman showing and winning on registered Racking horses across Arkansas and the mid-South. He was an expert fisherman and cherished the times spent fishing with Margaret on Lake Ouachita and Greers Ferry Lake and greatly enjoyed his Florida and Canada fishing trips. With Margaret he enjoyed trips and cruises abroad touring Europe, South America and the Caribbean.

Richard was a Charter Member of West Side Church of Christ where he attended faithfully until his health declined. He was known for his love and devotion for his family, putting them first in all things.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 65 years, Margaret Coleman Davis; brothers, Cecil Gray and Johnny Gray; sisters, Betty Harvey and Dorothy Highfill; and an especially close cousin, James Paul Scott, who was like a brother to Richard.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters Sherry (Ken) Charles and Vickie (Chris) Raff; two sisters, Mary Wheeler and Louise Decker; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of friends.

Richard will be greatly missed but we rejoice in knowing that he and Margaret are now enjoying their Heavenly reunion.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, from 1-2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Searcy. Funeral services will immediately follow, beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be held in Romance Cemetery.
