age 84, of Rogers passed away Tuesday April 11, 2023, in Rogers. He was born July 10, 1938, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Roy and Gladys Cole.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jack attended Fayettevil­le, Ark., High School, and Fullerton, Calif., High School.

As a young man Jack enjoyed working as a skate boy at the Fayettevil­le roller rink and the sport of boxing. He attended the Church of Christ in Fayettevil­le with his parents. On March 3, 1954 he married Shirley Mae McFarland of Rudy, Ark., his wife for 35 years. In 1975, Jack and Shirley, who was in banking, bought an existing flower shop in Rogers and named it Shirley’s Flowers and Gifts. It is now owned and operated by their daughter Teresa Jo Buttram.

Jack served as Chief of Police for the city of Rogers, Ark., beginning in 1970. Jack was a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Quantico, Va., in 1972. Jack was Vice President of Security and Loss Prevention at Wal-Mart beginning in 1975. Jack was elected the Mayor of Rogers, Ark. from 1979 until 1981. Beginning in 1980, Jack was co-owner of Speaco Foods with his business partner, Clarice Moore. Speaco was a food manufactur­er with operations in Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, and California. In 1999, Jack retired to Florida then to the White River in northwest Arkansas.

He is survived by his two children, Teresa Jo Buttram of Bella Vista, Ark., and Michael Cole of Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchild­ren; and six great-grandchild­ren.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2023, at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home Rogers. Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday April 25, 2023, at Fairview Memorial Gardens under the direction of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home Rogers.
