Should know better

-

According to Sen. Tom Cotton’s biography, he holds a law degree from Harvard. Therefore I would assume that he knows the purpose of a grand jury (to determine whether evidence exists that a crime was committed), and that a grand jury is selected by the court clerk at random from the general population. I would also assume that he knows that, once a grand jury has determined that a crime has been committed, the defendant must be acquitted or found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury of his peers, who are also selected at random from the general population. Since Donald Trump’s recent indictment by a Florida grand jury (not single-handedly by the special counsel), and since Mr. Trump will need to be tried by a jury of his peers before he can be found guilty of any crime, it would be helpful if Senator Cotton would name the “Third World banana republics” that would offer Mr. Trump the type of protection under the law he is receiving from the Florida courts. I’m sure that Jamal Khashoggi, the reporter murdered by the Saudi Arabian monarchy, and Mr. Alexei Navalny, the opponent of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin who was first poisoned by Mr. Putin and is now languishing in a Russian prison without trial, would love to have the legal protections currently being extended to Mr. Trump.

By the way, the fact that Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton and even Mike Pence were not indicted for actions similar to those Mr. Trump is accused of does not make his indictment any more unjust than if you or I were given a ticket for speeding by a trooper who failed to see two or three other speeders before we were stopped for speeding.
