96 of El Dorado, Ark., passed away 21 June 2023. He was born 10 October 1926, in Carlisle, Ark., the son of Alice and John Bayron Felton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 61 years, Jo Bryant Felton and his son, Jarrell Bayron (Barry) Felton.

Jarrell grew up in South Arkansas and graduated from Louann High School at age 16. Later he attended Ouachita Baptist College where he graduated with degrees in mathematic­s and chemistry.

Jarrell served in the United States Army in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked at American Oil Refinery in El Dorado, serving first as a chemist and later in the personnel department. In 1965 Jarrell left American Oil to start Felton Oil Company where he successful­ly built a small family business that served three generation­s of his family for more than 55 years.

Jarrell was an adventure traveler and avid outdoorsma­n making many trips to Alaska where he participat­ed in wilderness river trips on both the north and south slopes of the Brooks Range. He was also a serious duck hunter who enjoyed hunting with family and friends in North Louisiana and South Arkansas. Jarrell passed his passion for duck hunting on to his sons and grandson. He also loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle into his late 80s.

Jarrell followed the Lord faithfully at the First Baptist Church since 1952, where he was a deacon and served on many committees and boards as well as traveling for several mission trips to help others in need. He especially enjoyed the Men’s Chapel Sunday School class and his church family.

Surviving Jarrell are his daughter Jane Felton Proffitt of Little Rock (Jim Morse), his son, Walter Felton, and wife Gayle of El Dorado, his daughter-in-law, Carol Sample Felton of El Dorado, grandson John Felton and wife Amie, granddaugh­ter Rosamond Ann Johnson and husband Blake and granddaugh­ter Hollis Proffitt, six great grandchild­ren, many friends and a small group of caregivers that allowed Jarrell to live at home until his death.

The Family would like to thank the caregivers, Bea Fields, Demerria Holmes, Shauntal Miller, Cyntrell Fields, Regina Harris, Elvie Jean Carey, Lois White, Joyce Williams, Homagean Eutsey and Detta Allen who made it possible for Jarrell to live comfortabl­y at home in his final years.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday June 26th, 2023 at the First Baptist Church, 200 West Main, El Dorado Ark., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors. Burial to follow at Arlington Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 25th, 2023 at Young’s Funeral Directors in El Dorado.

Serving as pallbearer­s will be John Felton, Blake Johnson, Jack Reynolds, Kenny VanHook, Mark Brown, and Rob Reynolds. Serving as honorary pallbearer­s will be the Men’s Chapel Bible Class.
