JONESBORO — William Robert Green, M.D., Jonesboro

physician, passed away at Saint Bernard’s Medical Center on July 25, 2023 after lengthy and frequent periods of pneumonia. He was born May 27, 1940, to George Douglas Green and Carrie Porter Green in Camden, Ark. Residing in Sparkman, Ark., until age 18 and graduating from Sparkman High School in 1958, he then earned a B.A. degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Arkansas in Fayettevil­le. Further course work was taken at Ouachita Baptist University in preparatio­n for medical school. In 1968, he received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. Following graduation he completed his internship at Confederat­e Memorial Medical Center, today a part of the LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, La. His radiology residency took place at UAMS and the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Memphis.

From 1972 through 1974 Dr. Green served in the United States Air Force with the rank of major at Randolph AFB, Command Headquarte­rs, in San Antonio, Texas. His duties assigned were Chief Radiologis­t and Medical Officer of the Day. In 1975 he joined Associated Radiologis­ts in Jonesboro, serving patients and staff 40 years at Saint Bernard’s Medical Center.

Dr. Green’s profession­al membership­s include the Arkansas Medical Society, Craighead-Poinsett Medical Society, American College of Radiology, Radiologic­al Society of North America, and the Society of Nuclear Medicine

Moving to various cities for required educationa­l purposes, Dr. Green and his family always joined a church where they could worship and serve in each location. He and Mrs. Green are long time members of First Baptist Church and the Adult 7 Sunday School Class in Jonesboro, where he served as a deacon at FBC before health problems ensued.

Dr. Green was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, George Douglas Green Jr., of Malvern, and childhood friend and best friend through adulthood from Sparkman, Rex Chambers.

Dr. Green and his wife, Carolyn Ann Green, would have been married 56 years in September. Survivors are his wife, their two sons, Robert Carl Green of Jonesboro, and Dr. Edward Douglas Green and his wife Emily, and two grandchild­ren, Emery and Douglas Green of Ridgeland, Miss., sister-in-law Virginia Kay Green, and niece, Ashley Green of Maumelle.

On Saturday, July 29, at 3 p.m. a Memorial Service honoring Dr. William Robert Green will be held at First Baptist Church, 701 South Main St., Jonesboro. Leading the service will be Dr. Rodney Reeves, senior pastor at FBC. First Baptist Deacons and Adult 7 Sunday School Class members will serve as honorary pall bearers. Burial will be private.

The family extends their deepest gratitude and love to caregivers from Visiting Angels, and to the ICU staff at St. Bernard’s Medical Center for their excellent care and compassion.
