DEWITT — Dixie Lynne Moritz Alter,

62, of DeWitt, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. She was born January 24, 1961, to Bobby and Lynda Dickson Moritz.

Dixie grew up in DeWitt and attended First Assembly of God with her family during her growing up years. She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1979, where she was a member of the band and a majorette. She loved twirling! After her graduation from high school, Dixie attended Ouachita Baptist University (OBU). As a freshman at OBU, Dixie was selected as the majorette captain. She was the first ever freshman to hold that position, it was usually an honor given to a senior. Dixie later transferre­d to Arkansas State University (ASU) and was a majorette there. She was a featured twirler wherever she was, and was known for her twirling. She shared her talent and love of twirling with many over the years. She graduated from ASU with a degree in Radio/TV Broadcasti­ng and Journalism.

Later in life, Dixie went back to school and became a nurse. She put her heart and soul into caring for her patients.

Dixie enjoyed twirling, music, and her family. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and caring for them. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and daughter. She always put others first, and was always loving, kind, selfless, and compassion­ate to everyone.

She was preceded in death by her husband John B. Alter; her father Bobby Moritz; and brother Eddie Shawn Moritz.

Dixie is survived by her children Brittany Briggs (Cole) of Reydell, Kristen Amick (Adam) of Jonesboro, and Spencer B. Alter of DeWitt; her mother Lynda Moritz; brother Randy Moritz (Regail); and sister Shonda Cruz (Jose) all of DeWitt; and three precious grandchild­ren Blake and Allison Briggs and Keller Amick.

Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 16 at First United Methodist Church in DeWitt. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. Burial will be in DeWitt Cemetery.
