NCAA DIVISION III SEWANEE (TENN.) 20, HENDRIX 19

Christian Webb blocked an extra-point attempt with 1:55 left to help Sewanee (3-1, 2-0 Southern Athletic Associatio­n) hold on at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium in Conway.

Hendrix (2-3, 2-1) had pulled within a point after Jacob Buniff threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Kanyn Utley, but Webb broke through and got a hand on Slate Stanton’s ensuing point-after kick.

The Warriors had another chance to win the game on their final possession and got a first down at their own 43 late. However, Buniff suffered a sack and had his final pass fall incomplete on fourth down to effectivel­y end the game.

John Luke Lasseter had a touchdown catch for the Tigers, who also got a 20-yard fumble return score from John Wilson in the second quarter. Jack Satterfiel­d added field goals from 29 and 46 yards out as well.

Buniff finished 25 of 44 for 325 yards and 3 touchdowns for Hendrix. Utley had 8 catches for 96 yards with 2 scores, and Peyton Wingfield caught 7 passes for 90 yards and 1 touchdown.

MCMURRY (TEXAS) 52, LYON 14

A point-scoring outburst during an 18-minute span in the first half brought McMurry (2-2) back from an early deficit to a rout at Wilford Moore Stadium in Abilene, Texas.

Two quarterbac­ks combined to throw five touchdowns for the War Hawks, who trailed 7-6 in the first quarter until a 10-yard touchdown catch by Skylar Soward started a stretch of 32 consecutiv­e points to end the half for McMurry. Jess Hoel completed 24 of 34 passes for 293 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Tray Walton was 6 of 6 for 188 yards with 2 scores as the War Hawks finished with 642 total yards.

Kristopher Martin caught 5 passes for 160 yards with scoring catches of 16, 49 and 60 yards for McMurry. Corinthean Coleman had 5 catches for 101 yards and reeled in a 73-yard touchdown from Walton with 1:09 left in the second quarter that allowed the Warhawks to take a 31-point lead into intermissi­on. Hess and Phazzon Washington also had rushing touchdowns for McMurry.

Karson Doughlas finished with 3 receptions for 76 yards, including a 64-yard scoring catch from Brady Miller that gave Lyon (2-3) a lead in the first quarter. Kristopher Funck added a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for the Scots, who had 157 yards total, allowed 5 sacks and punted 12 times.

NAIA TEXAS WESLEYAN 62, ARKANSAS BAPTIST 0

Cole Francis accounted for eight touchdowns as Texas Wesleyan (41, 3-0 Sooner Athletic Conference) had an easy time at Scott Field in Little Rock.

Francis, a redshirt freshman, was 12 of 20 for 306 yards with 5 touchdowns, but he also scored on two 1-yard runs for the Rams, who led 14-0 after the first quarter before stacking up 27 points in the second to open up a 41-0 lead at halftime. Ernest Ceasar ran 14 times for 142 yards and had 2 receiving touchdowns, including a 27-yarder with 5:09 to go in the third quarter, as Texas Wesleyan ended with 580 yards of offense compared to 190 for Arkansas Baptist (0-5, 0-4).

Josue Perez and Vernon Harrison each had a touchdown run, and A.J. Bobb caught 3 passes for 122 yards and 1 touchdown in the win.

Christophe­r Witherspoo­n had 42 yards on 11 carries to pace the Buffaloes, who turned the ball over 4 times and was just 2 of 15 on third downs.
