BENTON — It is with heavy hearts and overwhelmi­ng sadness that we announce the passing of our precious mother, grandmothe­r, and great-grandmothe­r, Dorcas Jean Holicer.

She went to her Heavenly home on October 4, 2023. She will be truly missed by her family and friends, of which she had so many.

Dorcas was born on September 30, 1931, to Neal and Lucille Bowers of Bauxite. She attended Benton High School, where she was majorette for the Benton High School Band and cheerleade­r for the Benton football team. She enjoyed drama and participat­ed in many plays throughout her time in High School and college.

Dorcas became a schoolteac­her at Benton High School. where she taught Western Civilizati­on, History, and Psychology. She was a National Honor Society Sponsor and Director of the Senior High Play. Dorcas was loved by her students and after her retirement many of them kept in touch with her.

Dorcas was owner of Dorcas Holicer Flowers for several years. She also was a longtime volunteer for the Gann Museum.

As a member of the First Baptist Church in Benton she taught Sunday School. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and traveling with her late husband, Glenn Holicer.

Dorcas is survived by one daughter, Pam Hanley (Bob-deceased) of Benton; and son, Brad Holicer (Kristie) of Benton. Her grandchild­ren include Elizabeth Hanley of Benton, Chris Alsbrook (Samantha) of Benton, Samantha Holicer (Austin) of Benton, Anna Holicer-Young (Charlie) of Benton, Allie Holicer-Mayhan (Garrett) of Malvern, and January Alsbrook of Benton. She also has 13 great-grandchild­ren that she loved dearly.

Dorcas was preceded in death by her parents, Neal and Lucile Bowers; husband, Glenn Holicer; sister Joan Clark; daughter, Terra Alsbrook; grandson, Bart Hanley; grandson, Andrew Alsbrook; and great-granddaugh­ter, Sutton Alsbrook.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 9th, at 3 p.m. at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton, Ark., with her great-grandson, Pastor Holden Hanley, officiatin­g.
