BEST ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON William Hefley Jr., M.D. >> FINALISTS: BEST ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON Scott Bowen, M.D., & Ken Martin, M.D. >> FINALIST: BEST NEUROLOGIST/NEUROSURGEON Brad Thomas, M.D. >>
Offering top-notch medical expertise and a caring staff, Arkansas Surgical Hospital has established itself as one of the premier medical facilities in Arkansas. The organization enjoys a five-star rating from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and is ranked in the top 5 percent in the nation for patient experience.
ASH was also well-recognized in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s 2023 Best of the Best balloting, in which Dr. William Hefley Jr. was voted Best Orthopedic Surgeon. Two other ASH physicians, Drs. Scott Bowen and Ken Martin, were finalists for Best Orthopedic Surgeon, and Dr. Brad Thomas was a finalist for Best Neurologist/Neurosurgeon.
“It is a great honor to be recognized again this year as one of the Best of the Best in my field,” Thomas said. “The team I work with at ASH is very experienced and caring toward patients. I give God all the glory for my success.”
“It is an honor to be recognized again this year,” Bowen said. “It reflects the daily mission of our practice to provide a high level of care and always place the patient’s welfare above all else.”
Specializing in orthopedic surgery, spine surgery and pain management, ASH puts to work the best in medical expertise and the latest surgical technology to provide relief and increased mobility for patients. But it is the personal touches that truly set the organization apart.
“We are patient-focused,” Martin said. “We provide excellence in all aspects of care, not just the surgical procedure, by really paying attention to the patient experience, starting before they come in the door and all the way to discharge.”
“The service delivered from the office to the OR, placing the patient’s needs at the forefront, result in exceptional service and care,” Thomas added.
The honorees said having the opportunity to improve the quality of life for patients is one of the most rewarding things about being a physician.
“I played a lot of sports growing up, which landed me in the ER and orthopedist’s office on many occasions,” Hefley said. “Also, since childhood, I have had a fascination with working with my hands to build and repair things to improve their function. Orthopedics was a natural fit.”
“Several of my parents’ good friends were physicians, and I was always fascinated by their stories of hospital and medical care,” Bowen said. “This motivated me to pursue a career in orthopedic surgery that has proven to be most satisfying.”
