Pain can be a debilitating condition, and sometimes, it is tough to understand, but one Little Rock practice works to give its patients the relief they deserve. Natural State Pain and Wellness Clinic in Little Rock has been named Best Pain Care Clinic by readers of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in its 2023 Best of the Best readers’ poll.

“We truly feel that we have the best patients, and I am grateful that they would take time out of their busy lives to vote for our clinic,” said Jill Flaxman, M.D., practice owner. “It also confirms that we are giving the patients the best care around.”

The clinic provides a number of services, including whole-person pain care, therapeutic Botox injections, regenerative medicine, platelet-rich plasma injections, medically managed weight loss, hormone-replacement therapy, food-allergy testing, and vitamin, lidocaine and ketamine intravenous infusions.

“My mission is to deliver the best whole-person pain care to every patient who enters our clinic,” Flaxman said. “My business philosophy focuses on quality and service to our patients.”

The clinic was opened in 2022. For 15 years, Flaxman had served as a hospital leader who worked closely with staff and administration to solve large problems, especially in the areas of quality and outcomes. This unique experience has given her the insight to think outside the box. She believes the best outcomes take a little extra work, but the outcome is worth it.

“Each patient’s issue is different, and that gives me the energy to keep working hard and solving problems for my patients,” she said.

Flaxman said her staff members are always looking for ways to give back to the community and specifically enjoy partnering with their patients and the organizations that are important to them. This year, the clinic is focusing efforts on the Autism Foundation, CARTI, The Van, Project Zero, Our House and the Arkansas Heart Hospital.

One of the most important aspects of her practice, Flaxman said, is taking the time to truly understand where her patients’ pain is coming from.

“We take a close look to truly identify the cause of the pain, rather than the typical MRI and back injection assembly-line medicine,” she said. “We ask patients to take a look at their habits, sleep, nutrition and stressors so we can help them to improve these areas as well.”

Flaxman also praised the staff of her clinic and patients alike.

“We are truly ecstatic at how our clinic has grown,” she said. “I am so proud of my team and feel lucky that I have such amazing patients that make my work feel a lot less like work and a lot more like the fulfillment of a dream to change the way Arkansas takes care of its patients.”
