FINALIST: BEST IN-HOME CARE Southern Caregivers >>

With more and more people needing in-home assistance with daily tasks to stay in their homes these days, making high-quality care available has become a vital service. Southern Caregivers has established nine locations in Arkansas to offer that care and enable clients to live independently.

“Southern Caregivers’ mission is to provide a supportive team that is loving, caring and experienced so that we may give the utmost quality care to our clients,” said Sam Gummeson, one of the owners of Southern Caregivers. “We strive to enhance the quality of life for your loved one, making their lives brighter, safer and more enjoyable. … Our contracted caregivers undergo a rigorous series of interviews, screenings, maltreatment checks and background checks before being hired.”

These qualifications and more have earned Southern Caregivers the title of finalist in the Best In-Home Care category of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s Best of the Best readers’ poll for the second consecutive year.

“We are so blessed and feel such gratitude and excitement about this honor,” Gummeson said.

“We are constantly growing and striving to improve our quality of care and look forward to receiving more honors and recognitions in the years to come,” she said. “We truly feel like there are so many more positives and good things to come our way as a company as a whole. We couldn’t be more excited about our expansions and being able to service the entire state of Arkansas.”

Gummeson said Blake Watson founded Southern Caregivers in Magnolia in 2015, and in 2019, locations were opened in Hot Springs and Searcy. In 2020, the company expanded to Texarkana, Arkansas, and in 2022, saw new locations opening in De Queen, Conway, Jonesboro, Springdale and Bentonville.

She said one of the most important things about the company is that it is owned and operated by all registered nurses.

“Prior to starting this business, we all worked in health care and know from a nursing standpoint what it means for us to be able to care for these clients to the best of our ability,” Gummeson said. “We have also worked as caregivers and cared for our own family members. …

“We truly know the struggles that our clients and their families, as well as our caregivers, endure. Our goal is to be a support system for each of them and do whatever we can to relieve some of their stresses and provide some relief to them. … We look forward to continuing to serve the amazing people of Arkansas.”
