Weekend shootings leave one critical

- DANIEL MCFADIN

Little Rock police respond- ed to multiple shootings over the weekend, with one leaving a victim in critical condition, according to police reports.

That shooting occurred just before 1 a.m. Saturday morning and resulted in the arrest of Darius Evans, a 32-yearold Black man, on charges of first-degree battery.

Officers responded to a shots-fired call at Eagles Suites at 1010 Breckenridge Drive.

Upon arrival they found an unidentified man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. After the scene was secured, the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Officers used security camera footage to collect suspect information and were able to identify a 2015 Jeep Patriot that possibly belonged to the suspect.

A police dog alerted officers to the presence of Evans, who matched the suspect’s description, in the woods nearby.

A gun was found sitting on the curb at the address officers responded to.

On Monday, Little Rock police arrested Jonathan Ernst, 32, at 1010 Breckenridge Dr. on a felony charge of tampering with physical evidence.

An arrest report said Ernst was caught on video removing a shooting victim’s wallet.

The report did not indicate which shooting incident it was related to.

At 9:27 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a shots-fired call from the Comfort Inn at 707 on the I-30 Frontage Road.

While in route, officers were told several shots originated from a parking deck area and that a subject was located in the upper level.

Upon the officer’s arrival, they found a Black male standing in a pool of blood near a bench on the upper level.

The man identified himself as Alexander Williams, 24.

Williams then laid on the ground and said he’d been shot in the buttock and thigh.

Williams told the officer that he had been sitting in his car when an unknown man he hadn’t interacted with before shot him. Williams said he couldn’t provide any description of the shooter.

Williams was taken to a hospital where it was determined that he didn’t have life-threatening injuries.

During the course of the investigation it was found that Williams’ identity couldn’t be verified.

Officer also found that his vehicle had traveled without control of a driver and crashed into another vehicle.

William’s car had multiple bullet holes in the driver side door, in addition to bullet damage to other vehicles.

A review of security camera footage showed a silver vehicle of unknown type in the area of the shooting.

Later in the day, officers returned to the Comfort Inn after receiving a call about firearms that were found in the hotel.

Guest services manager Sherell Chandlier said that a housekeeper found two black guns, a Glock 43 and Glock 22, underneath a pillow in a room.

The room had been rented to Travaugh Williams, with a listed address of 4630 Mill Stream Drive, Apt. 201 in Memphis, Tenn.

Both guns were loaded, with one bullet in the chamber.

A database search of the weapons indicated that the Glock 22 had been stolen.

The guns were placed in evidence in connection to the parking deck shooting.
