— Ruth Simpson Blake, 97, a long-time resident of Helena-West Helena, Ark., passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 8, 2023.

She was born July 29,1926 in Coahoma County, Miss., to the late Press and Minnie Simpson. She attended the local schools in that area.

She moved to West Helena in 1951 and joined First Baptist Church, West Helena, in 1953, serving in many capacities. She was an active community member serving those in need and was known for her excellent cooking and beautiful flowers she cultivated daily. She worked for Dr. Troy Paine and family for almost 40 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Willie Blake; two sons, Dwayne “Peanut” Blake, and Terry L. Blake.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her children:Eugene Simpson (Bobby), Richard Blake (Linda), Martha Blake Norman (Roy), Melvin Blake (Deborah), Delores Blake, Gloria Stevenson, Vernon L. Blake, Marie Hendrix, Edmond Blake (Cassandra), Evelyn Smith (Roger), Dale H. Blake (Terry), Arness Blake (Jackie), Willie Blake (Patsy), Steven P. Blake (Veronica); over a hundred grandchild­ren, great-grandchild­ren, and greatgreat grandchild­ren; a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and a special sister by choice, Melvina Neal.

Arrangemen­ts are as follows: Visitation, Friday, November 17, 2023, 5-7 p.m., at Stephens Funeral Home.

Funeral services Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 11 a.m., First Baptist Church,125 N. Coanza St., West Helena, Ark.

Mrs. Ruth will lie in state from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral.
