Virginia Umphries Knight Nunnally,

was born August 25, 1933 to Johnnie R. Umphries and Lorene Russell Umphries in Walkers Creek, Ark., the second of five children.

She graduated from Bradley High School in Bradley, Ark., in 1950 and soon after began working at Internatio­nal Paper Company in Springhill, La., in the accounting department. There she met her husband, Joseph Earl “Joe” Knight and they married in 1951. After the birth of their two children, Suzanne and Joey, they moved to Camden in 1960. She worked for the TAC Equipment Company in East Camden for many years. After her daughter’s death in 2014 she moved to Hot Springs, Ark., and there made many friends at the bridge club and the Antique Mall where she had a shop for several years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Camden, Ark., Camden Junior League and Daughters of American Revolution. Virginia’s hobbies were playing bridge, gardening, yoga, collecting antiques and her favorite was piano where she began classes as a senior adult and continued for 20 years.

She was married to Joe Knight until his death from cancer in 1997. In 2006 she married Dr. Robert “Bob” Nunnally. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Robert “Bob” Nunnally; her daughter, Suzanne Knight; and her sister, Shirley Umphries O’Glee.

She is survived by her son, Joey Knight, of Hot Springs, Ark.; two sisters, LaNell Umphries Stuart of Springhill, La., and Mary Umphries Darden of Lexington, Ky.; brother, Johnnie Rhea Umphries and spouse, Linda; many nieces and nephews; stepsons, Robert Howard Nunnally, Jr. and spouse, Merrill and Bruce Wayne Nunnally and spouse, Ann; stepdaught­er, Shanna Marie Berry and spouse, Les; and step grandsons, Andrew Cameron Nunnally and Charles Robert Reed, Jr. and step granddaugh­ter, Madison Geddie Reed; lifelong friend, Mary Barnes and special friend, Carol Thomason of Hot Springs, Ark. who visited faithfully when Aunt Virginia became unable to participat­e in activities outside her home; and special care givers, Becky Cline and Ryan Davenport.

The family would like to thank Joey for the amazing care he took of his mother the last two years of her life and Gentiva Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Virginia and their support for Joey.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church in Camden.
