FAYETTEVIL­LE — Charles Robert Britton,

long time resident of Fayettevil­le Ark., passed away in his home on Friday, December 8, 2023. He was born to Robert Atwell Britton and Louise Small Britton in Winfield, Kan. The family moved to Hays, Kansas, where he grew up. After moving with his family in high school, he graduated from Rolla High School in 1960, President of the class of 1960. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Missouri in 1964 and a Master of Arts in 1965. He then went to work for the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City before returning to school at the University of Iowa, where he completed his Ph.D. in Economics in 1971.

He married his college sweetheart, Jana Lynn Moore, in 1962. He had three children in the following six years. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversar­y in 2013.

He began his teaching career at the University of Arkansas in 1969. At the University, he received numerous teaching and college awards including the prestigiou­s Alumni Award. He was proud of being chosen by the student body as Teacher of the Year numerous times and from Assistant to Associate Professor to Full Professor and eventually University Professor, teaching over 25,000 students in his 46-year career, retiring in 2015. Along with teaching, he wrote a multitude of grants, was published in dozens of journals, and presented at conference­s throughout the United States. He also had the pleasure of taking several sabbatical­s, teaching at the University of Arizona, several voyages teaching on Semester at Sea (sponsored by the University of Pittsburg and University of Virginia. Most importantl­y, he taught three summers at the University of Colorado, where his children learned to love the mountains.

Chuck passed on a love of the outdoors and adventurin­g at National Parks, his love of worldwide travel, and his love of continuall­y learning to his children and anyone who knew him well.

Chuck is survived by his partner, Susan Lancaster; his children, James Robert Britton and his wife Kelly, Tory Britton Sims and her husband Eric, and Stacy Lynn Britton Higgins and her husband Matthew; his grandchild­ren: Kyle Britton and his wife Kathryn, Kayla Britton Rowe and her husband Jacob, Kaitlynn Britton Williams and her husband Ben, Finnian Higgins, Gabrielle Higgins, and Quinn Higgins; his great-grandchild­ren: Luke Britton, Paisley Britton, Adelyn Britton, Oaklynn Rowe, Avey Rowe, Bodie Williams; his brother David Britton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jana Moore Britton.

Charles spent the last seven years of his life joyfully traveling the world with his loving partner, Susan, and his crazy cat, Phantom. He would love it if everyone would raise a glass of wine in his name and share your stories about him with a smile on your face.
