LULA VIRGINIA ROSS MONTGOMERY,

-

of Little Rock, Ark., passed away 21 December, 2023, in Pine Bluff, Ark., at the age of 91.

Lula was born

January 29, 1932, in Pansey, Ark., to Walter and

Mallie Swayze

Ross. Lula was born a cotton picker and did so until she married her husband, Robert (Dick) Ross. Dick Ross passed away in February 1972. Lula would later marry her second husband, Millard Montgomery, in 1978; they met at Teletype, where she retired in 1988.

Lula led an active life. She was a remarkable cook and passed her skills to those who listened. She was a skilled seamstress, making clothes, costumes, and quilts for her family. Her quick wit and profound silence were well known and well received. She enjoyed traveling and crossed the nation seeing countless landmarks. She tended to her gardens and reaped what she sowed, and well into her later years, she tended to her lawn and flower gardens.

She is preceded in death by the father of her children, Robert Ross; her second husband, Millard Montgomery; her parents, Walter and Mallie; brother, Winston Ross; sisters, Faye Ross, Wanda Woodall, Bea Dorman; grandchild, Brad Ross; great-grandchild, Brandon Carmichael; and son-inlaw, Grady Taylor.

She is survived by her siblings, Addie Mae Sizemore, Diane Porter, and brothers, Joseph Ross and Edward Ross: three children: Michael Ross (Connie), Tony Ross (Peggy), and Renee Ross Taylor; her grandchildren, Misty Ross, Christy Rich (John), Robert Ross (Kimberly), Tonya Bromley (Brad), Broc Taylor, and Braden D Taylor (Emily), seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Lula Virginia Ross Montgomery should be remembered as a shepherd of her family. Always attentive to her flock, her ability to tend to and care for each of her children is passed from her to them to their children. Her desire to see each of them succeed in whatever endeavors they pursued will leave an ever-lasting impact on each of them. Lula was a blessing to all those who interacted with her, not only for the wisdom she would offer, but also for the comfort she brought into their lives.

A special thank you to Trinity Village in Pine Bluff for their care of our mother, and a very special thank you to all the Misty’s.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Roller Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, with funeral services following at 2 p.m. Darran Kea will officiate. Burial will follow at Ivy Chapel Cemetery in Little Rock.
