Division a cancer
Editor, The Commercial: We can not be deterred by the adversity that has presented itself by creating a measure of division across our community. We must fight for the future of our community, culture and children. There is a stumbling block that firmly lies at the feet of our people.
Strife and division ravages our city like a cancer. It is fueled by anger; it is fueled by selfish ambition; it is fueled by misinformation and disingenuous intention; it is fueled by hatred. An angry person continually stirs up strife, causing destruction on every path they tread. In our city, it’s not about Democrats and Republicans as much as it is about, tax or no tax, the underserved and the privileged, truth and deception.
However, my heart is full today as I now see what makes us strong. It is the diversity of our differences and the right to have a voice. What makes us stronger is the passion we have for things that we believe, causing us to arrive at a precipice of change in Pine Bluff. Yet and still there is a substance that makes us our strongest.
It is the common ground that each of us stand on by faith, it is Love. We have to continue to dispel the false narrative that love is weak and has no place in the ideals of a nation, state, city or neighborhood. “God is love; and those that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in them. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out all fear.”
We love our schools. We love our churches. We love our people. We love our city — We love Pine Bluff. We love Pine Bluff for the sake of our children. We love Pine Bluff in the fight for equity and equality. We love Pine Bluff through our stance against violence and killing in the streets. We love Pine Bluff by our pursuit for prosperity and a quality of life. We love Pine Bluff because it stands for dignity, pride and excellence. Pine Bluff is our love, it is our home.
It is time to take a stand for the hope and stability of our community and for the generations to come. There is a voice crying out in the wilderness of Pine Bluff. It says there is a fresh wind coming in our future and that future is now. SAMUEL GLOVER,
PINE BLUFF
