UAM teams undergo narrow losses to ECU
Kate Ogle rebounded a missed 3-point shot and was fouled with less than a second remaining, making 2 free throws to give Oklahoma’s East Central University a 5250 win over the University of Arkansas at Monticello on Saturday at Steelman Fieldhouse.
Mackenzie Crusoe, Kennedy Cummings and Ogle each scored 13, with Crusoe also pulling down 11 rebounds and Ogle 8 boards. East Central (7-13, 3-13 Great American) won a game that saw 15 lead changes and 5 ties.
Alindsey Long and Kelsey Blakemore each scored 12 points for UAM (7-15, 3-13). Alyssia Thorne (9 points, 9 rebounds) and Bailey Harris (7 points, 10 rebounds) nearly registered double-doubles, while Haleigh Crews added 7 points.
The game was tied at 24-all at halftime.
MEN’S BASKETBALL East Central 55, UAM 53
Also in Monticello, the Boll Weevils (9-12, 7-9 Great American) narrowly lost their third game in a row after Ty’reonn King missed a go-ahead 3-point shot with 3 seconds left.
East Central’s Godsgift Ezedinma scored in the paint to tie the game at 53-all with 2:13 left. Keyon Thomas made the first of 2 free throws with 1:47 left, and Bryce Woolridge made 1 of 2 after being fouled on a fast break with 15 seconds left.
Isaac Jackson totaled 16 points, Zane Nelson had 13 points, King scored 10 and Wesley Booker pulled down 10 rebounds despite no points. Thomas led East Central (1012, 6-10) with 17 points, Jaden Miller scored 15 and Woolridge had 7 points and 10 rebounds.
UAM led 31-21 at halftime. The Weevils will visit Southern Arkansas University for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff on Thursday, following the women’s game at 5:30.
ON THE DIAMOND
In baseball, the University of Central Oklahoma swept two doubleheaders from UAM in Edmond, Okla. The Bronchos won 9-4 and 2-1 Friday, then 4-0 and 5-2 Saturday.
UAM (1-5) will begin Great American Conference play at 2 p.m. Friday against East Central.
UAM’s softball team (4-4) will visit Delta State University for a Thursday doubleheader in Cleveland, Miss. Delta State will return the favor Friday in Monticello.
