JAMES B. “JIM” MILLER,

of Little Rock, Ark., died on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the age of eightytwo. He was born in Albemarle, N.C. on May 8, 1941. Jim attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) and remained a lifelong supporter of the Tar Heels.

He met his first wife, Kathryn Taylor, while at UNC. After graduation in 1963 he entered the Air Force and served until 1968. During his tenure Capt. James B. Miller was awarded a commendati­on medal for meritoriou­s service.

For his second career, Jim worked for J. P. Stevens & Company (textiles) as a manager in the Human Resources department in Greenville, S.C.

Jim began preparing for his third career by entering Columbia Theologica­l Seminary (Decatur, Ga.) in 1983. After graduation he was ordained as a Pastor in the Presbyteri­an Church (U.S.A.) in July 1987. He served churches in Arkansas and Florida until his retirement in 2008. His final position was Associate Pastor at Second Presbyteri­an Church in Little Rock, Ark. In his work with the Outreach Ministry of Second Presbyteri­an Church he became involved with a wide range of non-profit organizati­ons in the Little Rock area. As a recipient of a heart transplant in 2003, he was an active supporter of ARORA (Arkansas Organ Recovery Agency).

Jim is survived by his wife, Catherine Allsbury, sister Fran Miller Way (Clyde), daughter Lynn Miller Holcombe (Chris), son Scott Miller (Sarah), and six grandchild­ren: Bryce Miller, Jae Miller, Ashley Holcombe Payne, Maggie Holcombe Williams, Jack Holcombe, and Patrick Holcombe.

A memorial will be held at Second Presbyteri­an Church on March 2, 2024, 3 p.m. Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of RuebelFune­ralHome.com
