Carolyn June Moore McCurry, 90,

-

of El Dorado passed away Monday, February 19, 2024. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by family.

She was born June 19, 1933, in Columbia County to Thomas Henry Moore and Nannie Mae Terrell Moore. She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1950 at age 16, having skipped grades 2 and 8. She entered Warner Brown Hospital School of Nursing in June of 1950, which was affiliated with St. Mary’s Hospital in Saint Louis, Mo. This fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a nurse.

Most of her 48-year nursing career was spent in the surgical department, ICU/CCU, and nursing administration. She had the privilege of assisting in the organization of and directing the first ICU/CCU in south Arkansas. During this time, she also taught a coronary care course twice yearly to nurses from other south Arkansas hospitals. She served as interim administrator of Warner Brown Hospital for six months prior to the merger of WBH with Union Medical Center in December of 1987. She served on the boards of the YWCA and the United Way of Union County.

Carolyn was a member of Second Baptist Church (Cross Life) where she served on many committees including the designing and selection of the stained glass windows. However, her greatest satisfaction came from teaching second and third grade children’s Sunday school, beginning in 1959 and continuing until December of 2023. It was always a joy for her to teach and be loved by second and third generations of one family.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Ben; and her son-in-law, Dr. Scott Hardin.

Survivors include one daughter, Kay Hardin of El Dorado; and she was Missy to grandson Matthew Benjamin Moore (Bethany) of El Dorado, and granddaughter Emily Anne McClenahan (Scott) of Malvern; great-grandchildren, Hunter Alan Cheatham and Micah Andrew Moore.

Pallbearers include Hunter Cheatham, Bob Cook, Bo Rumph, Ron McDaniel, Randy Swilley, and Mike Graves.

Funeral services will be under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at Young’s Chapel, Friday, February 23th, 2024, at 10 a.m., with funeral service following at 11 a.m. Services will conclude with a private family burial at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
