UA baseball falls to Okla. St. in 14

-

A 14-inning classic ended with an RBI squeeze bunt Saturday night as the No. 4-ranked Arkansas baseball team fell 2-1 to Oklahoma State at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

The Razorbacks (4-2) managed eight hits and drew five walks in the game, but left 15 on base. Right fielder Kendall Diggs drove in Arkansas’ lone run of the game with a single that scored Jared Sprague-Lott in the fifth inning.

Arkansas’ 1-0 lead held until the bottom of the ninth when Aiden Meola hit a one-out double that scored Jaxson Crull, who pinch ran for Tyler Wulfert after he walked, from second base. After giving up the run, Jake Faherty then hit the next batter before being replaced by Gabe Gaeckle, who went on to strike out the next two batters with the bases loaded to force extra innings.

The Cowboys (4-2) finally broke the deadlock in the 14th inning. After Meola struck out looking, Donovan LaSalle singled up the middle and eventually reached third base after an error. Lane Forsythe then executed the squeeze bunt to end the game, which lasted more than four hours.

Arkansas starter Brady Tygart went 6 shutout innings while giving up 3 hits and 2 walks while also striking out 6 batters. The Razorbacks racked up 25 strikeouts in the game. Colin Fisher took the loss for giving up the game-ending run after 2 1/3 innings of work while giving up 2 hits and a walk and striking out 6.

Oklahoma State starter Brian Holiday allowed the only Arkansas run in his 6 innings of work, giving up 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Tommy Molsky got the win after 2 innings of work where he gave up 2 hits and a walk while striking out 3.

Arkansas will face Michigan today at 1 p.m. to close out its stay at the College Baseball Series in Arlington. Saturday’s game extended nearly up until press deadline, and full coverage will be available later at arkansasonline. com and wholehogsports.com.
