MAYFLOWER — Billy Gene “Bill” Ausbrooks,

of Mayflower, Ark., went to his eternal Home on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at the age of 92.

Bill was born in Cato, Ark., on September 17, 1931 to Mamie Lee and Arthur Ausbrooks. He went on to serve his country as a United States Marine before returning home and starting a career as a plaster contractor. Bill eventually owned his own constructi­on companies, A&W Plaster and A&W General Contractor­s. He went on to coown and co-operate A&W True Value in Mayflower where he worked until his retirement. He became a standout leader in his community, serving as President of the Board of the Mayflower School District and on the Mayflower City Council. He was a deacon of his longtime church home, Mayflower First Baptist Church. Bill was a dedicated servant to his community and his church, and he was eager to help anyone in need. In 2008 he put his expertise to work as a part-time Customer Service Associate and resident “fix-it” guru for Lumber1 in Mayflower where he became lovingly known as “Grandpa Bill.”

Bill was a beloved son, husband, daddy and grandpa to all who were lucky enough to call him theirs. He was preceded in death by his mother and father as well as two sisters and two brothers, Lavada Harris, Gay Gatavia, Mac Ausbrooks and Ray Ausbrooks. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Virginia Ausbrooks, his four children, Billie Cartwright (Kenny), Sheila Carver (Larry), Pamela Morton (John), and Mark Ausbrooks (DJ), six grandchild­ren, Tobie Jost (Mike), Brad Cartwright (Angela), Brandy Nesselrodt (Doug), Courtney Griffith (Carl), Nealy Wells (Adam) and Clarke Ausbrooks, as well as seven great-grandchild­ren, Alexie Thompson, Ty Morris, Kade Cartwright, Presley Morris, Stevie Nesselrodt, Scout Nesselrodt and Augusta Wells.

Bill leaves behind a beautiful legacy and will be remembered for his love of people and largerthan-life sense of humor.

The family invites you to a celebratio­n of a life well-lived. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2024 followed by a graveside service all to be held at Mayflower Cemetery.
