SEARK,ATU partner on BSE path

-

Southeast Arkansas College and Arkansas Tech University recently partnered to offer a 2+2 plan that will help graduates of SEARK’s Associate of Arts in Teaching seamlessly transfer to ATU to complete their bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on elementary education.

The partnership was announced Feb. 13, with representatives from both institutions formalizing the partnership with a signed articulation agreement, according to a news release.

Under the terms of the agreement, SEARK students who complete an Associate of Arts in Teaching will be able to apply the credits earned at SEARK directly toward a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. This 2+2 pathway ensures continuity in their educational journey and paves the way for a successful career in teaching, while giving students the flexibility to complete their degree either online or on campus, according to the release.

SEARK Interim President Stacy Pfluger emphasized the significance of this collaboration.

“SEARK College recognizes the high demand for quality educators in the Delta region. By offering students a clear route to transition from SEARK College to Arkansas Tech University, we empower our students to become the next generation of effective educators while remaining in the region,” Pfluger said.

Tim Carter, Dean of the College of Education and Health at ATU, applauded the partnership, highlighting the option for students to work while finishing their bachelor’s degree, which can include paid internships for students working within local school districts.

This collaboration reinforces the institutions’ shared mission to serve communities and advance the field of education, according to the release.
