PREP BASEBALL HUNTSVILLE 12, NWA HORNETS 1

Leadoff hitter Kaden Evans had two hits, drove in two runs and scored twice as Huntsville scored early and opened its season with a rout of the NWA Hornets.

The Eagles (1-0) scored four runs in the first inning and added eight more in the second to claim the win as seven different players drove in at least one run.

Talon Herring, Brady Bollingers and Kolby Phillips combined on a two-hitter, allowing just a solo tally in the third as the three Huntsville pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts. Herring was the only other Eagle with more than one hit.

GENTRY 3, DARDANELLE 2

Gentry picked up a pair of bases-loaded walks in a three-run second inning, then held off Dardanelle to open its season with a road victory.

A balk allowed Ty Jones to score home from third, then Drew Nash and Bryson Woodall drove in a run each by drawing a bases-loaded walk for a 3-0 lead. It would stand after Dardanelle scored solo runs in the fourth and seventh.

Nash pitched 4 2/3 innings and earned the win as he allowed just 2 hits and struck out 8. Riggs Harper and Briar Mayberry both worked in relief for the Pioneers.

GRAVETTE 4, HARRISON 0

Holden Betz and Brody Bohannon combined for a two-hit shutout as Gravette defeated Harrison in a nonconfere­nce game at Gravette.

Betz threw 4 innings and allowed the 2 hits as he struck out just 1, then Bohannon added 3 innings of hitless relief with 6 strikeouts.

J.D. Deem belted a two-run single, and Kyle Murphy added an RBI hit as part of a three-run third for the Lions. Their final run came in the seventh when James Marta was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

WEST FORK 14, LAVACA 8

West Fork erased a six-run deficit with all 14 runs over a three-inning period as the Tigers posted a victory at home over Lavaca.

West Fork cut the lead to 6-2 in the third, then erupted for eight runs in the fourth to move ahead. Conner Allen had two hits and three RBI for the Tigers, while four other players drove in two runs apiece.

Six different West Fork pitchers combined to record 14 strikeouts.

PREP BOYS SOCCER HARRISON 1,

HAAS HALL-BENTONVILL­E 0

Kale Thomason provided the only goal as Harrison defeated Haas Hall-Bentonvill­e in the season opener for both teams.

Thomason picked up the goal off a penalty kick in the 31st minute for the Goblins. Trey Horton picked up the shutout in goal for Harrison.
