The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishm­ents that include restaurant­s, bars, day cares, schools, grocery stores, convenienc­e stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspection­s are made unannounce­d by environmen­tal health specialist­s.

∎ TROPICAL SMOOTHIE CAFE, 502 Mallard Loop Suite E. Date of inspection Feb. 9. Observed food out of their original packaging and in bulk bins not properly labeled with the common name of the food it contains. Food not in the original packages for use in Establishm­ent must be identified with the common name of the food. Containers were labeled during the inspection.

∎ SMALLCAKES, 502 Mallard Loop, Suite J. Date of inspection Feb. 9. Observed packages and containers of food being stored directly on the floor. Food shall be protected from contaminat­ion by storing in a clean, dry location where it is not exposed to splash, dust, or other contaminat­ion and at least 6 inches above the floor.

∎ MARANATHA BAPTIST ACADEMY, 5820 Holsey St. Date of inspection Feb. 9. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisor­y and management responsibi­lity and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparatio­n and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficienc­y of required informatio­n through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM. Observed wiping cloths laying on counter top. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with Regulation­s pertaining to Retail Food establishm­ent.

∎ PAPA JOHN’S PIZZA, 3800 S. Camden Road. Date of inspection Feb. 12. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisor­y and management responsibi­lity and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparatio­n and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficienc­y of required informatio­n through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM. Observatio­n: Observed drink with no lid and straw. All drinks must have lid and straw. (Specific observatio­n here) Corrective Action: Discontinu­e consuming food, use of unapproved beverage containers, or use of tobacco in food preparatio­n or warewashin­g area. Drink was discarded during time of inspection. Observatio­n: Observed walls and doors are soiled in establishm­ent. Corrective Action: Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulati­on of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris.
