HOT SPRINGS — Richard David “Dick” Campbell,

93, died Friday, February 23, 2024, in Hot Springs, Ark., at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 17, 1930, to John D. and Mattie L. Campbell, the youngest of seven children.

Growing up in Memphis, Tenn., with humble beginnings, Richard graduated from Christian Brothers Junior College, Memphis State University, and Memphis State University School of Law. His sales career began with Lawson Stacker and Irvington Machine Works in the forest products industry. In 1970 he moved his family to Little Rock, Ark., when he became the co-owner and president of H. Jack Flanders Company, representi­ng hundreds of manufactur­ers in the sawmill and woodworkin­g industry. He sold his company to Harvey Engineerin­g and Manufactur­ing and worked there until his retirement.

Richard was a proud Marine Corps veteran serving actively during the Korean war for six years and was a Marine Corps Reservist for 32 years, achieving the rank of First Sergeant. Semper Fi.

Richard married the love of his life, Josephine Rose Burrowes, on February 23, 1952, in Memphis, and rejoined her on what would have been their 72nd wedding anniversar­y. They had 68 beautiful years together until her death in in 2020. Together they raised seven children. For over 40 years, Richard and Josephine enjoyed the houseboat life at Mountain Harbor on Lake Ouachita that began a lake legacy with their kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Richard wasknown to family, friends, and neighbors as the fix-it man with the right tools and a heart of gold. He had that big, warm smile for everyone he met, including his neighbors on HB boat dock and the Men’s Coffee Club in the Forest Lakes Community. His quiet generosity will forever be fondly remembered by his church family at All Saints Catholic Church.

Richard is predecease­d by his parents; wife, Josephine; his first-born son, Richard D. (Ricky) Campbell, Jr.; and all his siblings.

He is survived by his children, Linda C. Reis (Bryan) of Pearcy, Sharon C. Proctor (Randy) of Dallas, Texas, Gary L. Campbell of Austin, Ark., Diane R. Campbell of Mt. Ida, Lisa C. Caspall of Hot Springs, and Susan D. Campbell of Mt. Ida; as well as his sweet black dog, Cash. Richard was also proud Papa to six grandchild­ren, eight great-grandchild­ren,and another one soon expected.

Special thanks to his caregivers Sandra, Evelyn, Dewey, Brandi, and Pastor Jeff of Hospice Home Care for their compassion­ate care. Much love and gratitude to daughters Diane and Lisa for their daily passionate caretaking.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, with Rosary at 7:30 p.m., in the Smith Family Funeral HomeHot Springs. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father George Sanders at 11 am on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at All Saints Catholic Church in Mt. Ida, Ark. Interment will be at 1 p.m. in Memorial Gardens, Hot Springs.
