HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Julia Hartsfield Carruth

-

passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 83 on February 26, 2024. She was originally from Monroe County, Ark., and received her education at Marvell High School, where she graduated valedictorian of her class.

Two years later, she married, started a family and began building a life in West Helena, Ark. Throughout her time there, she was involved in church and worked outside the home, in addition to caring for her family. She was employed by the Phillips County Office of the Agriculture, Stabilization, and Conservation Service Office (ASCS); worked as a church secretary, managed the office for a local doctor and sold many World Book Encyclopedias.

For the past 20 years, she loved living on Lake Pineda in Hot Springs Village, Ark., where her living room window provided the perfect frame to watch the sunsets. Her front porch often hosted passing walkers and their pups who came to visit with her as she enjoyed the morning sun. Being an amateur birdwatcher, the back deck overlooking the lake was the ideal setting to feed and attract beautiful birds and woodpeckers.

Julia’s life-long faith kept her involved with church and volunteering. She also enjoyed outings and trips with friends and family, but felt most rewarded serving as a caregiver for home-bound seniors in Hot Springs Village.

She is survived by her son, Craig Carruth (Beth) of Lexa, Ark.; daughter, Karen Carruth of Temple, Texas; one grandson, Devan Carruth of Lexa, Ark.; two sisters, Barbara Crisp of Jonesboro, Ark., and Toni Thompson of Hernando, MS.

She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Marion Carruth; her parents, Ralph Leonard Hartsfield and Annie Kornegay; sisters, Imogene Hollowell, Elner Crisp, and Joan Holloway; and brothers, Troy Hartsfield and Vernon Hartsfield.

The family wishes to thank the Elite Hospice staff of Hot Springs Village for their compassionate care; special thanks to Seleta Rich, Sheila Ashing and Kasi Townes for their loving kindness and support of Julia and her family.

A private service will be held with burial at Cypert Cemetery in Cypert, Ark. Relatives and friends are invited to share memories and sign the online guestbook.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to All About Kids, a Village Church of Christ program. All About Kids provides food during weekends and summers for school children in need in the Jessieville, Mountain Pine, and Fountain Lake school districts.
